DARTMOOR
WALKING is good for your body, mind
and soul, and where better to do it than
amongst some of the most stunning,
magical landscapes in the world.
Whether you’re looking for a
challenging trek across windswept
moors, or just a relaxing stroll through
secluded woods, you’ve come to
the right place.
Dartmoor has it all. Blaze your own
trail, be a pioneer, explore and take the
less trodden route. If you are a keen,
confident walker, try one of the hard or
moderate routes on our website, gather
your kit and head out the door.
CYCLING
It’s one of the first big achievements we
have as children. And it is something
we can continue to enjoy into old age.
It keeps you fit, gets you outdoors and
sends endorphins rushing to the brain;
which is a surefire route to happiness.
And Dartmoor is the place to do it; with
spectacular scenery everywhere you
look, mile upon mile of quiet wilderness
(plus some ponies) and welcoming
spots to take a break (pubs), there
is nowhere better. So what are you
waiting for? Bring your own your bike
or hire for the day.
HORSE RIDING
If you love to ride horses, Dartmoor is the place to do it,
dramatic scenery, challenging routes, open skies, peace and
quiet and astonishing scenery. You may be a beginner on
your first trek or an experienced rider embarking on another
adventure; either way Dartmoor is hard to beat. You can
ride out on to the open moor, trot along woodland trails
and bridleways, or follow in the hoof prints of Dartmoor’s
forefathers along historic byways.
If you don’t have your own horse, or are a novice in the
saddle, there are some excellent stables listed on the Visit
Dartmoor website.
EATING OUT
Landscape creates communities, and the diverse terrain
of Dartmoor National Park is home to some of the best
local produce in the UK. Almost everything about this last
wilderness has been decreed by its terrain; from the hardy
cattle grazing all year on the high moors, to the mineral-rich
Dartmoor spring water from the soft verdant valleys.
We love our food on Dartmoor - and so we should. We pride
ourselves on supplying some of the finest produce in the
world. Our rolling wild landscape reflects freshness, quality
and variety. Fresh and local are two words you’ll often hear to
describe the food available here today.
We’re also pretty good at cooking. Having great ingredients
helps, but on Dartmoor you’ll discover innovative cookery by
award-winning chefs using quality local produce.
Our producers sell at farmer’s markets, as well as in local
shops and farm-gate sales. Wherever you visit on Dartmoor
you will see evidence of our ancient traditions on our
unique landscape still being used today in our humane
farming methods.
