WHAT IS GENVOYA ® ?
GENVOYA is a 1-pill, once-a-day prescription medicine
used to treat HIV-1 in people 12 years and older and
weigh at least 77 lbs. It can either be used in people
who are starting HIV-1 treatment and have never
taken HIV-1 medicines before, or people who are
replacing their current HIV-1 medicines and whose
healthcare provider determines they meet certain
requirements. These include having an undetectable
viral load (less than 50 copies/mL) for 6 months or
more on their current HIV-1 treatment. GENVOYA
combines 4 medicines into 1 pill taken once a day
with food. GENVOYA is a complete HIV-1 treatment
and should not be used with other HIV-1 medicines.
GENVOYA does not cure HIV-1 or AIDS. To control
HIV-1 infection and decrease HIV-related illnesses,
you must keep taking GENVOYA. Ask your healthcare
provider if you have questions about how to reduce
the risk of passing HIV-1 to others. Always practice
safer sex and use condoms to lower the chance of
sexual contact with body fluids. Never reuse or share
needles or other items that have body fluids on them.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
What is the most important information I
should know about GENVOYA?
GENVOYA may cause serious side effects:
• Build-up of an acid in your blood (lactic
acidosis), which is a serious medical emergency.
Symptoms of lactic acidosis include feeling very
weak or tired, unusual muscle pain, trouble
breathing, stomach pain with nausea or vomiting,
feeling cold (especially in your arms and legs),
feeling dizzy or lightheaded, and/or a fast or
irregular heartbeat.
• Serious liver problems. The liver may become
large and fatty. Symptoms of liver problems include
your skin or the white part of your eyes turning
yellow (jaundice); dark “tea-colored” urine; lightcolored
bowel movements (stools); loss of appetite;
nausea; and/or pain, aching, or tenderness in the
right side of your stomach area.
• You may be more likely to get lactic acidosis
or serious liver problems if you are female, very
overweight, or have been taking GENVOYA for a long
time. In some cases, lactic acidosis and serious liver
problems have led to death. Call your healthcare
provider right away if you have any symptoms of
these conditions.
• Worsening of hepatitis B (HBV) infection.
GENVOYA is not approved to treat HBV. If you have
both HIV-1 and HBV and stop taking GENVOYA, your
HBV may suddenly get worse. Do not stop taking
GENVOYA without first talking to your healthcare
provider, as they will need to monitor your health.
Who should not take GENVOYA?
Do not take GENVOYA if you take:
• Certain prescription medicines for other
conditions. It is important to ask your healthcare
provider or pharmacist about medicines that should
not be taken with GENVOYA. Do not start a new
medicine without telling your healthcare provider.
• The herbal supplement St. John’s wort.
• Any other medicines to treat HIV-1 infection.
What are the other possible side effects of
GENVOYA?
Serious side effects of GENVOYA may also include:
• Changes in body fat, which can happen in people
taking HIV-1 medicines.
• Changes in your immune system. Your immune
system may get stronger and begin to fight infections.
Tell your healthcare provider if you have any new
symptoms after you start taking GENVOYA.
• Kidney problems, including kidney failure. Your
healthcare provider should do blood and urine tests to
check your kidneys. If you develop new or worse kidney
problems, they may tell you to stop taking GENVOYA.
The most common side effect of GENVOYA is nausea.
Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effects that
bother you or don’t go away.
Ask your healthcare provider if GENVOYA is right
for you, and visit GENVOYA.com to learn more.

What should I tell my healthcare provider
before taking GENVOYA?
• All your health problems. Be sure to tell your
healthcare provider if you have or have had any
kidney or liver problems, including hepatitis
virus infection.
• All the medicines you take, including
prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins,
and herbal supplements. Other medicines may
affect how GENVOYA works. Keep a list of all your
medicines and show it to your healthcare provider and
pharmacist. Ask your healthcare provider if it is safe to
take GENVOYA with all of your other medicines.
• If you take antacids. Take antacids at least 2 hours
before or after you take GENVOYA.
• If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It
is not known if GENVOYA can harm your unborn baby.
Tell your healthcare provider if you become pregnant
while taking GENVOYA.
• If you are breastfeeding (nursing) or plan to
breastfeed. Do not breastfeed. HIV-1 can be passed
to the baby in breast milk.
You are encouraged to report negative side
effects of prescription drugs to the FDA. Visit
www.fda.gov/medwatch, or call
1-800-FDA-1088.
LOVARI
Recording artist and actor Lovari revisits
the sounds of the early ‘90s R&B/pop
realm with his new album “The Rhythm of
Life,” to be released May 12. The album
contains 13 brand-new songs and includes
a remake of Mariah Carey’s “Around You”
from her “Emotions” album).
The distinctiveness of Lovari’s vocals lies
within the various tones that he delivers,
often sounding like (and at times being
mistaken for) a female due to his pitch, as
evident on “Need to Know.” The New
York born and raised artist has released
“Crush On You” as the first single, and it
is currently at #2 on the SpinReports.com
Nielsen/BDS R&B Hip-Hop Chart.
“There’s a lot of firsts for me on
this album,” Lovari says. “I have
whole structures of underlying vocal
harmonizations layered that I created in
almost every song. On my other albums,
I pretty much did straightforward vocals
with only matching backgrounds. I have
a country song on this album. I have a
gospel track. I have an ‘80s arena rock
song on here as well, which includes live
production by Dave Duke Sims of Shinobi
Ninja. He amazed me in the studio by
playing guitar, bass and keyboard on the
track in just one short session.”

Other firsts for Lovari on “The
Rhythm of Life” include working
with several producers. “In the
past, I worked with a maximum
of two producers for each
project. This time, I worked with
six, including an 18-year-old
female, Rya. I stood with the two
rule for my engineers, though
- 3PLE (based in Brooklyn) and
Robert ‘Giambi’ Garcia (based in
Manhattan).”
Lyric wise, the most lighthearted
lines include “You ain’t Page
Six, get up off this” on his song
“Paparazzi” and more serious
undertones on the track “Be
Yourself Tonight,” with the lines,
“Society today is very scary. We’re
all walking around like robots.
Land of the free and brave; that’s
what they used to say.”
Lovari has a differing opinion on
today’s society than most. He says,
“I think that collectively, although
most people fight for rights and
diversity, we actually are bullying
and intimidating each other even
worse than before. For example, if
you happened to vote for Donald
Trump, then everybody hates you
and looks down at you. If you try
to speak up about why you voted
for him, you get silenced and
threatened. Yet, we are fighting for
tolerance and acceptance. We live
in a very Catch-22 society.”
The singer/actor can be seen
regularly as Benji Xuxu on the
Funny Or Die series “Kippy.” “I’m
a goofball a lot in real life, so I
love playing one on this show,”
he says. He portrays a much
more menacing character in the
upcoming film “A Piece of the
Action,” filmed on location in
Newark, which Lovari now calls
home. “I’m a mean son of a bitch
in this movie, a sadist criminal
who enjoys taunting women and
children by putting guns to their
heads. The role was completely
out of the box for me, but that’s
what acting is all about.”
Lovari will be headlining Hot 97
FM’s Unity Fest in Brooklyn.
This is my disease. It’s in my body and I need to know everything I can to fight it.
I stay informed. I talk to my doctor. I talk to my pharmacists. And I share my story
through my own YouTube channel called My HIV Journey. Three years ago, when
I met my partner Phil, I told him I was HIV-positive in our first conversation.
He said, ‘That’s OK. There are lots of ways to protect ourselves.’ Phil takes PrEP and
I take my meds every day. In this relationship, HIV ends with me.

Flawless
With a new wave
of surgery-focused
reality shows vying
for our attention on
TV and major makeup
brands unleashing their
first round of male
beauty stars, aging
gracefully and finetuning
our features
to our preference has
never been more at
the forefront of men’s
health than now. Having
never been under the
knife myself, I caught
up with celebrity-duet
hitmaker Adam Barta
- who was featured on
the debut episode of
WE tv’s new hit plastic
surgery show “Dr.
Miami” - for his routine
beauty tune-up at the
Aesthetic Rejuvenation
Center to catch up on
what life is like after
bearing his insides -
literally - for millions to
see on TV.
By Michael Shirley
@MICHAELxSHIRLEY
Michael Shirley is a Hollywood-based TV host and
entertainment journalist. Formerly the editor in chief of
Hollywood.TV, Pacific Coast News and BritneySpears.
com, his forthcoming television series features
conversations with tastemakers and doyens at the
intersection of music, fashion, art and film.
Dr. Miami seems like a
real character! What was
it like in the recording
studio with him?
He is such an amazing guy,
and probably one of, if not
my most favorite collab
yet. His energy is just so
warm and genuine, plus
he is so incredibly talented
at what he does, it leaves
you in awe. And the fact
that he’s musically inclined
just makes me even more
amazed at all he does.
Your song, “Flawless,”
is doing really well on
iTunes and Billboard!
How does it feel
to have your third
hit on the charts?
It’s unreal, and it
makes me hungry
to go even further
up the charts and
do more! We
debuted at #24 on
the dance sales
chart on Billboard
and were #74 on
all of iTunes. It was
amazing to watch
that climb!
(And Dr. Miami weighed
in on Adam: Adam is an
amazing individual and
a great performer. His
transformation gave him
even more self-confidence
and will allow him to feel
comfortable in the spotlight
from any angle! Being able
to record with him in the
studio was an incredible
experience, and making the
Billboard chart is icing on
the cake!)
You’ve really made a
career out of turning
reality stars into viral
video stars. Have you
ever thought about
documenting the process
on film? I’m sure a lot
of YouTubers out there
would love to know your
secret to viral success.
I’m in the process of
developing a new reality
show called The V-List -
“V” for viral - with Jordan.
I also recently released a
new duet called “Body
Positivity” with Eureka
O’Hara from this season
of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,”
which I’m really excited
about. Stay tuned!

On Dr. Miami, you
mentioned to your
producing partner,
Jordan von Haslow, that
you went back to visit the
Aesthetic Rejuvenation
Center in New Jersey
to get more work done
after your surgery. Dr.
Freund, his staff and
office are all so inviting.
What keeps you coming
back to ARC, and what
non-invasive procedures
do you recommend for
men who want a tune up
without going under the
knife?
On “Dr. Miami,” I was
given the gift of the
perfect nose and chin via
plastic surgery. Dr. Miami
calls himself “Picasso with
a knife.” But even with
plastic surgery, we still age.
So, it’s just as important
for me to maintain my
skin as it is my features.
I feel as if Dr. Freund at
ARC and his staff are also
artists, not just doctors or
nurses or aestheticians.
They truly get that the
body and face are a
work of art, and it takes
more than just knowing
the physiology of the
body to make someone
look beautiful. They
recommend procedures
based on what you want to
make you look beautiful,
and that’s an important
factor in choosing a spa to
go to. Getting my brows
done with Vjera of Avarté
was epic for me! I saw
myself on Dr. Miami when
I had my initial consult and
noticed how jarringly thin
my brows were around my
face. With my new nose
and chin, and the thicker,
more defined brows, it
completely reframed
my face. Many men are
flocking to people like
Vjera to give them the
brows of their dreams. The
Nova Threads with Corina
pulled my whole face back
to give it a lift, then a gold
facial with Kathleen is
perfection. Say bye-bye to
facial tape, queens!
What about the
affordability?
You can really up your
beauty game and get rid of
wrinkles, lines and plump
up your lips and other such
stuff for the same price
as buying a few jars of
expensive beauty cream.
That’s the beauty arc
that’s taking place. People
these days have plastic
surgery to correct what
they don’t find desirable
about their bodies, and
go to medical centers
like ARC for non-invasive
procedures to correct the
smaller things without
spending a fortune. I
think if you do a cost
comparison on how much
money people spend on
beauty treatments - overthe-counter
creams, gels,
wands, whatever - you
realize that you don’t need
to keep using them all, and
the cost evens itself out.
What would you say to
men who want to have
some work done, but
are fearful of any pain
involved?
I think the human body is
more resilient than people
realize. We put so much
stress on them already
with the things we do that
a little needle pinch in the
face really isn’t that much
worse than getting a razor
nick on your face when
shaving.
TOMMY
JAMERSON
Playwright, Eternal Flamers!
The Ballad of Jessie Blade
New York City Premiere - Downtown Urban
Arts Festival May 19, 2017 at 7:00pm -
Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street,
Greenwich Village - www.duafnyc.com
About Eternal Flamer!
In this neon-coated, campy tribute to the
80s, pretty-boy Jessie Blade leaves his small
Minnesota home for the bright lights of the city
that never sleeps (…with the same
person twice) only to get mixed-up in a
labyrinth of plot twists, drag queens, sex,
drugs, and open dance calls!
About Tommy
Tommy was born in North Carolina and raised
in Northwest Indiana. He graduated from
Indiana State University with a concentration
in playwriting and directing. While there, he
was presented with the Angel of the Year:
Humanitarian Scholarship, wrote for Indiana’s
Gender Hate and Violence Conference, and
served as a judge for the Midwest High School
Playwriting Competition. His children’s plays,
THE BIG BAD BULLYSAURUS, PRINCESS
PIGFACE, CHOOSE YOUR OWN OZ, and
ALICE THE BRAVE & OTHER TALES FROM
WONDERLAND, have all received numerous
productions around the country. His one-act
campy comedy, RAGS TO BITCHES: A BATTLE
OF WITS & WIGS, recently won Best Short Play
at the 14th Annual Downtown Urban Theatre
Festival in New York City. Tommy holds an
MFA in Playwriting from the University of New
Orleans and resides in Caldwell (NJ) with his
husband, Mark, and their dog, Darby. Tommy is
a proud member of the Dramatist Guild.
Tommy’s Exclusive Interview:
How did you become a writer?
Sadly, it’s not that exciting of a story.
I started writing short stories and
plays when I was around twelve,
and for better or worse I’ve never
stopped. Writing has always been
my way of escaping reality (as
I’m sure is the same for people).
Growing up gay and obsessed
with Britney Spears in conservative
Indiana wasn’t the basket of roses,
so whenever I needed a pick-meup,
or felt like living in a world with
a tad more color and little less
bigotry, I’d hide inside the stories
of my own creation. Obviously the
written word is more to me than just
a coping mechanism. I’ve always
been drawn to the story-teller aspect
of theatre; the ability to take a room
filled with complete strangers, and
through the power of narration,
and some well-written lines and
characters, transport them all on a
journey that not only makes them
think and feel, but also allows them
to feel somewhat connected with
the hitherto unfamiliar person sitting
next to them.

Who are some current
playwrights you follow
and think should get
more attention?
I follow quite a few actually,
and thankfully, a lot of them
are getting the recognition
they deserve. A few of
my favorite contemporary
writers included Topher
Payne, who’s off-Broadway
hit, Perfect Arrangement,
has really been making
a splash in the regional
market. I also quite enjoy
Philip Dawkins. His show,
The Homosexuals, is one
of my top-ten favorite
plays of all-time. Steve
Yokey’s works (The Wolves,
Octopus), as well as my idol
and personal hero, Charles
Busch.
This play and your last
play featured drag
queens. How did drag
become such a vehicle in
your storytelling?
Throughout history, muses
have inspired different
artists by assuming
different forms. De Vinci
had Mona Lisa, W.B.
Yeats had Maud Gonne,
Johannes Vermeer had
The Girl With The Pearl
Earring, and I have The
Girls With The Tucked…
you get the idea. Jokes
aside, I’ve long been
inspired by the early works
of John Waters and Divine,
and their unapologetic
disdain for convention and
political correctness. Drag,
but nature, defies both,
and while these last few
years have seen numerous
aspects of drag and ball
culture inserting itself into
the main stream (thanks in
part to groundbreakers like
Drag Race and Kinky Boots)
at its gritty, grimy, sequincovered
core, drag is as
anti-establishment as an
art-form can be. The great
RuPaul hit the (press-on)
nail on the head when said
“Ego loves identity. Drag
mocks identity. Ego hates
Drag.” As an artist, how
could I not be inspired by
such a chameleonic form of
self-expression?
What makes a play great
for you? Are there certain
qualities that make a play
better for you?
What makes a play great
for me? Being entertained.
I don’t care if it’s a show for
children, adults, or anyone
in-between – as long as
I’m entertained in some
fashion, regardless of the
content of demographic,
I’m happy. As far as the
“certain qualities that
make a play better for
me” go, I’m pretty open to
anything and everything.
I love it when a show has
a tightly wound plot, and
you can tell that the writer/
writers put a lot of time
and forethought into the
show their crafting. I also
must admit; plays and
musicals that are peppered
with little inside theatre
gags really tickle my fancy.
Nothing makes me happier
than a nudge-nudge/
wink-wink moment with the
audience.
If there was one thing
that would make the
theater industry better,
what would it be?
Three words: Open. More.
Doors. While I think it’s
wonderful that repertory
theatres and producers
across the country are
loyal to a select group of
established playwrights,
and are willing to mount
almost anything bearing
their name (regardless
of quality), I can’t help
but feel aggravated for
insanely talented yet
criminally underrated artist
whose work deserves
to be seen and heard.
By continuing the tired
tradition of showcasing
only a select few points
of view and ignoring the
rest, the industry is doing a
disserve to both the artist
that make it up, as well
as the audience they’re
attempting to entertain.
This medium of theatre will
only progress if boundaries
are continued to be
pushed and new voices are
given the chance to speak.
As a creative person and
a gay man, does that
change your approach to
theater and the stories
you tell?
I suppose that as an
LGBTQIA artist there are
certain stories I’m naturally
drawn to more than others.
That said, the overriding
message in all my work,
regardless of its intended
audience, is to tell a story
of acceptance and love.
Even my insult-laden
comedy at last year’s
Downtown Urban Theatre
Festival, aptly titled RAGS
TO BITCHES, ended with
a hug.
What are you working
on now?
I have a few fires in
the oven, or as my
grandmother used to say,
“a few pies in the over.”
My adaption of the classic
Three Little Pigs fable,
titled Hamelot: A Pig’s
Tale, is being released
through Big Dog Plays this
Spring, and I’m currently
working on an adaptation
of Aladdin with a modernday
twist.
