Kamerny Theater, established in 1914, was a pre-Revolutionary<br />

experiment and the origin of Russian Expressionism<br />

(as opposed to naturalism) in theater arts. The work of its<br />

designers represented the major trends of contemporary art:<br />

Symbolism, Expressionism, Neo-Primitivism, Cubo-Futurism<br />

Unobtrusive owner’s blind stamp on colophon. One of 1500<br />

copies printed on untrimmed handmade Fabriano blue-gray<br />

paper with 79 tipped-in color reproductions. Erté (Romain de<br />

Tirtoff) was the Russian-born French artist whose exotic Art<br />

Deco designs included work in painting, sculptor, poster art,<br />

theatrical costume and fashion. $350<br />

on the Death of President Lincoln. London 1900. 12mo, full<br />

vellum with blind-stamped rose and motto “Soul is Form”.<br />

Fourth in the Great Poems series. Binding somewhat foxed;<br />

custom slipcase. One of 125 copies printed on vellum with<br />

frontispiece, large decorated initial at each stanza, rubricated<br />

initials to each line, and colophon; all drawn by C.R. Ashbee<br />

and colored by hand. An exquisite presentation of Whitman’s<br />

Japanese play with frontispiece of the theater, vignettes,<br />
