Rheims. Catalogue Été 1928. Folio, sumptuous portfolio of<br />

taupe sueded boards with large incised Art Deco design in<br />

silver on front cover of a tropical scene with sun setting in the<br />

sea and exotic flora with a serpent curling around a banana<br />

tree. Spectacular endpapers and internal wrapper in red with<br />

similar design and information about the company printed in<br />

silver. Cain et Rheims were manufacturers of dresses, coats and<br />

tailored costumes for women and girls with a retail shop at 62,<br />

rue du Louvre.<br />

Laid in are a decorated folded leaf describing the plates and<br />

eight plates in pochoir color mounted on silver card stock.<br />

Each plate shows several women wearing sportswear, daytime<br />

ensembles and evening wear in backgrounds of the social scene<br />

for which they are dressed. The illustrations are attributed to<br />

The elongated figures of the<br />

models are presented against<br />

backgrounds of sharp<br />

angles on the same plane,<br />

suggesting abstract space.<br />
