onding with their children and watching their
confidence grow in the water,” added Clare.
“Babies are used to being surrounded by water
for nine months don’t forget, so for them the
feeling is normal and another great reason to
start them swimming as soon as you can.”
Alongside Clare, Dinky Dolphins sessions are
led by two other experienced baby swimming
teachers and tailored to the relevant age groups,
involving crucial aspects of pool safety to help
youngsters feel at ease in the water from the
word go.
Toddlers don’t use armbands and underwater
activities are introduced gradually to help reduce
the fear of water that some older children often
experience.
Songs and games are combined with lessons on
how to hold on to the side and climb in and out
of the pool safely, to give an all round experience
for parents and their offspring.
“Our lessons help to develop babies’ learning
and social skills and they can swim with us
before the receive any of their immunisations,”
added Clare.
“They’re accompanied by an adult at all times,
along with a qualified instructor and we only
swim in pools that are 32 degrees which means
everyone is nice and
comfortable.
“I like to think we
make a difference to
people’s lives as well
as equipping as many
children as possible
with a vital lifesaving
skill.
“Swimming offers
huge developmental
benefits for baby
as well as precious
bonding time for
parents.”
“We’re not a huge corporate wheel where babies
are just a number - each and every swimmer
matters to us.
“We understand the demands that life can throw
at us all, and like to work with families to make
those demands a little bit easier.”
Dinky Dolphins sessions run at pools in St
Francis School in Lincoln, Nocton and Burton
villages, and Beckingham, near Newark.
