Sometimes there are some outfits you
have that you love that works, but
don’t fit quite right. That’s when giving
them a new lease of life with alteration
might be a good option to buying
something new. Not all tailoring and
alteration services are created equal. It
can get tricky finding a good one that
delivers decent workmanship, is creative
enough at refashioning the garment into
something you would be happy to wear,
and to do all this at a reasonable price.
I found what I wanted at this small shop
in Clementi central, where the personal
attention from the owner Mdm Choo and
the expertise of the seamstresses make
for a professional, efficient experience.
Frequented mostly by those living
in the vicinity, customers usually
turn up through word of mouth.
The shop offers the usual alteration
service such as shortening hemlines
to more sophisticated requests like
custom-making dresses. Mdm Choo
suggested various ways and materials
for refashioning the pants and skirts
I had brought in for her attention,
which turned out pretty much to my
satisfaction. Attention to details like wellstitched
pants cuffs and lace tastefully
added onto a skirt for embellishment
created whole new looks for my clothes
– and makes this shop a hidden gem.

Privacy and tranquility are the buzzwords
at this intimate spa. There’s a relaxation
lounge in the back where you can
relax pre- and post-treatment, and a
gym. A bounty of natural light beaming
through large windows leads you along
a corridor to the outdoor swimming
pool. Dim lights, candles and soft music
create a relaxing setting for massage
and skin services. The menu of body
and facial treatments reflects a mix of
traditional Asian and Western therapies
and modern skincare. If you book the
couple suite, the spacious room comes
with a massive tub, so the both of you
can soak in bliss.
My session begins with the Indonesian
Balinese Massage where areas of
soreness were eased by firm, rolling
strokes. This is followed by a stressrelieving
traditional Chinese foot
reflexology – my therapist used to work
in a foot reflexology centre, so her
skills were solid. For facial treatments,
therapists will draw from an array of
products from spa beauty brands Elemis
and Thalion, to target different skin types
or problems.

The cosy space hosts dark leather chairs
and dramatic huge mirrors, further
accented with eclectic wall decals and
framed wall pictures. The hair stylists
deliver their laid-back charm, kick-ass
hairdressing expertise and love of music
to a regular clientele. The long, relaxing
head and neck massages during the
shampoo and hair treatment were divine
treats. Clients come for styles ranging
from traditional cuts and colours to
bolder hues and asymmetrical layers,
each carefully coiffed with an artistic
touch. Clients return for the personable,
attentive experience and reasonablypriced
services.
