10th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition July 05 - 09, 2017 Wernigerode, Germany Singing in the colourful city in the Harz mountain range Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. Furthermore this competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century. Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching. Apart from pedagogical offers further concerts will take place downtown and in the surroundings of Wernigerode. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition the city of Wernigerode and INTERKULTUR will come up with some surprises, which will add to the program's established highlights such as the Choir Parade, Charity Concert and the Closing Concert. http://wernigerode.interkultur.com

Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. Furthermore this competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century.

Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching.

Kammerchor <strong>Wernigerode</strong><br />

Freude am Singen und jahrelange Chorerfahrung - diese Mischung zeichnet den Kammerchor<br />

<strong>Wernigerode</strong> aus. Alle Mitglieder des Chores sind Absolventen des Landesgymnasiums für<br />

Musik <strong>Wernigerode</strong> und haben früher in einem der renommierten Schulchöre gesungen.<br />

Das Ensemble gründete sich 2003 und belegte noch im selben Jahr den 1. Preis beim Internationalen<br />

Johannes-Brahms-Chorfestival. Es folgten ein 3. Preis beim Deutschen Chorwettbewerb<br />

in Kiel (2006), der 1. Preis beim ersten Grand-Prix der Chöre im ZDF (2007), eine Chorreise<br />

nach China (2008) und zwei Goldmedaillen bei den 2. European Choir Games & Grand<br />

Prix of Nations in Magdeburg (2015).<br />

Neben bekannten deutschen und internationalen Volksliedern gehören auch anspruchsvolle<br />

geistliche und weltliche Chorliteratur unterschiedlicher Epochen, sowie Spirituals und Gospels<br />

zum Repertoire. Bisher wurden zwei CDs produziert, darunter auch eine Weihnachts-CD („Wie<br />

strahlt dein Licht so sternklar“). Der Chor arbeitet regelmäßig mit Gastdirigenten zusammen.<br />

Die Leitung des Konzertes zur Eröffnung des 10. Internationalen Johannes-Brahms-Wettbewerbs<br />

übernimmt Rainer Ahrens - ebenfalls ein Absolvent des Landesmusikgymnasiums -<br />

freiberuflicher Chorleiter und Tonmeister in Berlin.<br />

Taking much pleasure in singing and a long lasting choral experience – this mixture characterizes<br />

the Chamber Choir <strong>Wernigerode</strong>. All members of the choir have graduated from the Landesgymnasiums<br />

für Musik <strong>Wernigerode</strong> and have sung previously in renowned school choirs.<br />

The ensemble was founded in 2003 and won the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival<br />

& Competition the same year. They also achieved a 3 rd place at the German Choir Competition<br />

in Kiel (2006) and the 1 st place at the first Grand Prix of Choirs (2007), made a concert tour to<br />

China (2008) and won two gold medals at the 2nd European Choir Games & Grand Prix of<br />

Nations in Magdeburg (2015).<br />

The repertoire does not only comprehend well-known German and international folk songs<br />

but also challenging sacred and secularly choral music of different ages as well as spirituals and<br />

gospels. Until now the choir produced two CDs incl. one Christmas CD („Wie strahlt dein Licht so<br />

sternklar“). The choir regularly cooperates with guest conductors. Rainer Ahrens – also a graduate<br />

of the Landesmusikgymnasium and a freelance conductor and sound engineer from Berlin<br />

– will resume the conducting of the concert for the opening of the 10 th International Johannes<br />

Brahms Choir Festival & Competition.
