10th International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition July 05 - 09, 2017 Wernigerode, Germany Singing in the colourful city in the Harz mountain range Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. Furthermore this competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century. Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching. Apart from pedagogical offers further concerts will take place downtown and in the surroundings of Wernigerode. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition the city of Wernigerode and INTERKULTUR will come up with some surprises, which will add to the program's established highlights such as the Choir Parade, Charity Concert and the Closing Concert. http://wernigerode.interkultur.com

Since 1999 the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is a crowd puller for choirs and music ensembles from all over the world. The colorful city in the Harz mountain range attracts visitors with its unique charm of medieval architecture and moreover with its musical characteristics: Three renowned German choirs come from this small town. Furthermore this competition, named after Johannes Brahms, puts a musical focus on this German composer and the German romantics of the 19th century.

Numerous advanced trainings offer interested choirs outstanding possibilities of mutual learning and professional training e.g. with evaluation performances and individual coaching.

A unique sound, breath-taking homogeneity, a reliable sense of musical style and loads of<br />

charm and esprit are the special trademarks of amarcord. The multi-faceted and wide-ranging<br />

repertoire comprehends songs of the medieval, madrigals and masses of the renaissance, compositions<br />

and works of the European Romanticism and the 20th century as well as a cappella<br />

arrangements of folk songs collected worldwide and well-known soul and jazz songs.<br />

The vocal ensemble is awardee of numerous international competitions. Together with the<br />

Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Thomaner Choir, amarcord belongs to the most important<br />

representatives of the music city Leipzig at home and abroad. The group regularly guests at<br />

major music festivals. The singers made numerous concert tours to more than 50 countries<br />

and nearly all continents. In cooperation with the Goethe Institut they guested in Australia,<br />

South East Asia, Middle East, Russia, Africa and Central America.<br />

In 1997 amarcord initiated the International Festival for Vocal Music „a cappella“<br />

(www.a-cappella-festival.de), which developed under the artistic direction of the group into<br />

one of the most important festivals of its kind.<br />

Numerous CDs impressively document the facets of their repertoire and have being awarded<br />

numerous prizes. With the CD "Folks & Tales" the singers received in 2014 their sixth Contemporary<br />

A Cappella Recording Award – the „a cappella Oscar“, which honours every year the<br />

best a cappella productions worldwide. Their CD "Zu S Thomas", containing two Gregorian<br />

masses of the Thomas Gradual of the Thomas church Leipzig, was awarded in 2013 with the<br />

International Classical Music Award (ICMA), the most important award of the European Record<br />

Critics. In 2012 the singers received the ECHO Classic Award with "Das Lieben bringt groß'<br />

Freud!" (MDG) in the category "Ensemble of the Year/Vocal".<br />
