The Maker: Peter Alexander Cabinets
What was the brief?
The property is an extremely old farmhouse and, after much to-andfro,
my clients got permission for a small extension. The couple are
very keen home-chefs and wanted an aesthetically pleasing, highlyfunctional
kitchen that wouldn’t dominate the limited space.
What was it made from/finished in?
The kitchen cabinet internals use an engineered board,
which is as hard wearing as a surface can be, looks great and
doesn’t cost the earth… in both the financial and ecological
sense. The painted components use tulipwood, due to its
excellent finishing properties. All drawer boxes are solid
oak, with traditional dovetail joints. The finish is a specialist
spray-applied paint, and the worktops are Silestone.
What appliances did it incorporate?
My clients chose a stunning Everhot range cooker. They also
opted for a standard integrated fridge freezer, a separate integrated
fridge, an integrated wine cooler and an integrated dishwasher.
Were there any special requirements for the client?
There weren’t any unusual requests, just to maximise
storage space. This was achieved with a pair of large larderunits
to house all of the food storage required.
How much would a kitchen like that cost?
A kitchen like this would be in the region of £12-
£15,000. There is a never-ending range of options to ‘spec’
things up or down, though, to suit most budgets!
