HowMuch Does Being in a Sorority Cost? Just like any other club or society on campus, Greek Life isn't free. In order to hold events and run as an organization, sororities cost money, referred to as "dues". Our organizations are non-for-profit, which means that the money you spend is going directly to the functioning and execution of sorority events, whether it be a philanthropy, social, or sisterhood. Some of these dues are only paid as a new member, and some are paid throughout your collegiate years. Here's how it breaks down: New Mem ber Dues These dues are paid during your first year in a sorority. These are a one time only payment to run certain programs. On average, these will cost around $200. New Member Fee - this fee covers your new member program, as well as your new member booklet Badge Fee - this fee covers the cost of your badge when you are initiated Initiation Fee - this covers the cost of your initiation Act ive Dues These dues are paid also during your first year in a sorority, but are also paid annually. This means that they will also be paid when you are an active. Some of these dues go towards Headquarters, in order to function as a large-scale organization, but most will go back to the chapter to spend on events and other activities throughout the school year. These vary from organization to organization. Chapter Budget Expenses - this fee will cover most sorority programming Panhellenic Dues - this fee covers the cost of being part of Carleton University Panhellenic Association and allows Panhellenic to run recruitment, fundraisers, and other programming Some organizations also include all, some, or none of their formal and semi formal ticket in their dues. Please feel free to ask each sorority if their dues cover this cost or not! How t o Pay Dues Each organization will discuss during recruitment how they will receive dues. Two of our organizations use BillHighway, and the third is looking to make the switch, but they are currently using TD. If you accept an invitation into one of the organizations, they will explain how to use either of these payment methods. Each organization has an executive position dedicated to ensuring sisters pay dues on time and aid anyone who is having difficulty. We are all students here, and that is also an expense. We know that women have different financial backgrounds, and this is why most of our organizations have payment plans. Some fees, such as the new member dues, need to be paid prior to initiation, so please be aware of that! Other organizations require you pay a certain amount each semester. Please ask each sorority what their payment plan is like so you know what to expect. We realize that sorority life is an added expense, but we wouldn't be able to hold the events we do without dues!

Do your research Knowing about the chapters in advance enables you to ask any questions you might have about their philanthropy involvement, academics and sisterhood events. Be yourself Active sisters are just as nervous as you are. Everyone is accepting and wants to learn all about you! Wear com fort able shoes Recruitment rounds range from 20-40 minutes in each organization?s room so you will want to be as comfortable as possible. Keep an open m ind Some girls go into recruitment thinking that one organization is their favourite but as you get to know the different chapters you may learn that your home is elsewhere. Let us get t o know you Tell us all about your hobbies, skills and interests! Sorority women love to hear about everything you?re interested in and hopefully you will meet girls you share the same unique passions with. Let us know your concerns We have been through recruitment ourselves and we understand that it is a stressful and exciting time - don?t be afraid to speak to a Rho Gamma or Recruitment Team member if you have any questions or concerns.
