Interviews are important for every position.<br />
From a corner office to a home, it’s<br />
important to know who you’re hiring and<br />
what you can expect.<br />
When it comes to hiring tradesmen and<br />
contractors for household projects, do your<br />
homework by asking them some of the following<br />
questions.<br />
Establish expectations and parameters<br />
• These are the tasks I have in mind. Are<br />
you able to handle them?<br />
• If you have household items requiring<br />
special care, describe them. How do you<br />
plan to handle these items?<br />
• What is your schedule? Is it flexible?<br />
• How will you communicate with me<br />
before, during and after the job?<br />
• If something is wrong, will you come<br />
back to redo it?<br />
• How long is your warranty? What does it<br />
cover and how is it funded?<br />
Learn about the crew<br />
• Who will be doing the actual work [e.g.,<br />
employees or subcontractors]? Is this an<br />
individual or team project?<br />
• How do you hire your crew?<br />

• Do you require an advance deposit?<br />
• How much preparatory work is included<br />
in the estimate?<br />
Know their qualifications<br />
• Are you licensed, bonded and insured?<br />
• Are you a member of any professional<br />
organizations?<br />
• How many times have you done this specific<br />
project before?<br />
• Do you provide references?<br />
• Do you have a portfolio of past work?<br />
