The Greats Andrei T. Pulp Fiction This film has everything that makes a good film a good film. Some of the best dialogue ever written, and just the plain best storytelling out there. The broken narrative just add to the enjoyment. If you are studying movies, study this film. 2001: A Space Odyssey The amount of storytelling done through just the visuals and shots is crazy and the special effects and cinematography are amazing. Some of the best sci fi special effects out there today and this movie is from 1968 (0 CGI). This movie defines the term a “Motion Picture”. The Shinning Actually, just go watch all of Kubrick’s films. The Shinning however is in my honest opinion, the best horror/thriller ever made. Never have I felt so unsettled throughout a movie that I’ve watch 3 times already. Every time I seem to be even more on the edge of my seat, knowing what’s about to happen. The atmosphere and Mise en Scene was on point, it’s truly a spectacle in itself. Good Will Hunting The acting? Flawless. The story? Perfect. Everything about this movie? Must see. If you ever felt like you didn’t know what you were doing with your life and you felt out of place (I should see everyone nodding their heads), then WATCH THIS MOVIE. It’s so touching, I am obsessed with it. Her My favorite love story ever. Period. Spike Jonze is a weird guy but god does he know how to tell a story, especially something as over expressed as love. I felt more emotion towards the people in this movie than most actual people in my life and one of them isn’t even human. If you want a refreshing tear jerker, watch Her. Matrix Things Don’t even have to explain, best action movie out there. Quite possibly, the worst movie out there that was actually trying to be good. It’s so bad that immediately becomes such a one of a kind experience that you have to see it. It was trying to be a horror movie but in the end you won’t know whether to laugh or cry. You’ll see what I mean.
A List of Films for your Viewing Pleasure because Watching Films Appeals to your Eyes & Emotions! Andy Wong 1. The Usual Suspects a. The comedic tone mixed with the constant mystery of who Kaizer was really drew me into the film. This comedic tone, along with the unique type of narrative, influenced me to actively attempt to figure out who Kaizer truly was. As the whole film’s acclaim is based on the ending, spoiling yourself prior to watching the film will greatly detract from the experience. 2. Memento a. The disjointed narrative allowed multiple storylines to be formed. As new information is gained as a result of the sequences, previous conceptions of what truly happened are smashed. Personally, as the movie progressed, my previous ideas about the actual plot were quickly voided because of new information revealed by the film. This constant destruction of my opinion heavily encouraged me to ‘beat the system’ and figure out the truth before it was revealed. 3. Kimi no Na Wa a. Kimi no Na Wa was a visual stunner of a movie. Accompanied with the soundtrack, the movie turned into a beautiful presentation of emotions. The soundtrack tugs at your emotions while the visuals keep you invested in the movie. On top of this, the plot in itself is unique, and the characters are built in such a way that appeals to the audience. 4. Old boy (2003) a. The initial plot and characterization built the main character as a man seeking revenge. The intensity of this revenge elicited heavy sympathy with me, and drew me in with the goal of the main character. I found myself actively engaged and wishing ‘bad things’ on the enemies of the main character. 5. The Prestige a. -What makes the prestige a great movie is the secret that lies throughout the film. In essence, the entire film was a large ''magic trick'. As The Prestige is a film based around magicians, viewers generally think that they are above every single character, as their tricks are revealed throughout the film. However, the plot twist takes the audience down a peg, and instead reveals that the whole time they were fools to a large magic trick as well.
