Excuses have no uses. Trust yourself. Henry Ford
once said, “If you think you can or if you think
you can’t, you are right.” You have been
successful during the past in so many things.
Believe your capabilities or sit down to write all
the reasons you are going to be a failure in your
enterprise. Sleep thereafter.
Express your vision
You are not a juggler. It is tough to keep all the
ideas in your mind and keep juggling them. It
makes sense to put them on a piece of paper.
Keep writing. Keep reviewing. Keep correcting.
Take opinion from others. Crystalize what you
desire. Your vision for the enterprise, your
mission and goals are critical. Invest time.

You need to choose an area for your business.
What should you choose? The one with lot of
money or least amount of botheration! It is your
choice. Identify an area of business or service

Ready your resources
Depending upon your business, you will need a
lot many of them, e.g., People, Place, Money,
Technical and Commercial support etc.
Contingency plans would be needed. Choose
people selectively. Hire less but hire the right
quality. Groom them or get them groomed
appropriately. Outsource as much as you can
afford.
Enthuse and energise yourself
All days are not going to be the same. Lull times,
bad times and tough times will keep coming back
to you at regular intervals. Keeping your self
motivation high may become a tough challenge.
Remember the old maxim, “This too shall pass”.
Your energy and motivation is going to rub on
your team and family. Be a good shock-absorber
for them.

Network with right people
Your company matters. Revolve around negative,
unethical and short-term focused people and
there is every likelihood of your becoming the
same. Search for more successful and ethical role
models for yourself. Toss ideas and share your
experiences. Benefit from theirs. Exponential

Evaluate options and terms for investment
This is a tricky area. Seek professional help. In
need for funds, many entrepreneurs accept
tough conditions and percentage. Be watchful
and go cautious! Try to go to financial
institutions, banks or avail government schemes
before venturing out for private equity. You can
attract angel investors better after your first
proof-of-delivery.
Understand customers’ needs
Customers needs should be top most on your
priority list. Understand the needs that he can
articulate well including his pain points vis-à-vis
his expectations from products or services. More
important shall be the needs which you can
deduce as the unarticulated needs of your
customers – the ones he may have but is not in a
position to express appropriately. Work on them.
Develop/refine your products or services to take
care of them. Some may not provide the right
response or receive acceptability. That’s part of
business. BUT the one/s that may click will give
you phenomenal dividend. Work wisely. Deliver
well. Enjoy the big pie.

Avoid being a miser but be watchful about any
tendency to go overboard in your spending. Put
‘value for money’ to good use when you go in for
your capital and operational expenses. However,
be generous with people expenses. Keep them
satisfied and spend a bit more on their
happiness. Involve them in economizing in other
areas. They may surprise you.
Stay close to Industry
Join industry associations. Participate in their
events. Interact well with various speakers and
participants. Thrive on the networking. Keep
