Do not walk barefoot. If s<strong>and</strong> gets into the s<strong>and</strong>als remove it<br />

immediately. The reason for this is that our feet are not accustomed to<br />

walking without footwear, <strong>and</strong> the abrasive nature of the s<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

stone can lead to cuts <strong>and</strong> infections.<br />

If a blister starts to form, immediately apply a plaster firmly over it. This<br />

prevents it from increasing <strong>and</strong> rapidly heals it. Once a blister has<br />

formed, do not puncture it as this leads to infection. Rest is important.<br />

If one becomes sick, then one must take medical advice immediately.<br />

The Saudi government provides free medical centres for all pilgrims.<br />

WOMEN’S ISSUES<br />

In the state of impurity (needing a bath, i.e. if a woman is a *\’i} - in<br />

her menses - or a Nufas\’ - experiencing post natal bleeding) she is<br />

generally forbidden the following:<br />

Entering a masjid, performing %al\h, performing ^aw\f, reading<br />

Qur’\n, fasting <strong>and</strong> having sex.<br />

In the above mentioned state of impurity she is permitted to:<br />

Enter into I#r\m, recite Talbiyah, recite %alaw\t upon the Prophet r,<br />

recite Dhikr <strong>and</strong> supplicate (using non-Qur’\nic wordings).<br />

If there was a miscarriage <strong>and</strong> the pregnancy lasted:<br />

1. Four months or more, then the bleeding will be regarded as<br />

Nif\s (post-natal bleeding). In this situation a woman cannot<br />

perform %al\h or ^aw\f until the Nif\s ends.<br />

2. Less than four months but the bleeding lasts for more than<br />

three days then the bleeding will be regarded as of the menses.<br />
