Professor Emeritus Frank Press, co-author of the book Earth, a basic<br />
reference textbook on Geology in many universities around the world,<br />
says in his book that mountains have underlying roots. These roots are<br />
deeply embedded in the ground, thus, mountains have a shape like a<br />

Modern earth sciences have proven that mountains have deep roots<br />
under the surface of the ground and that these roots reach as much as<br />
10-15 times their elevations above the surface of the ground. Mt.<br />
Everest, for example, has a peak of 9 km but extends underground<br />
more than 125 km. So the most suitable word <strong>to</strong> describe mountains<br />
on the basis of this information is the word ‘peg,’ since most of a<br />
