Epworth League Banquet The very first people to say how-do you-do to S. M. U. and give a hand of cordial welcome to the new, green, freshies and the as new and as green upper classmen were the Epworth Leagues of the Dallas District. It wasn't without a thrill of anticipation that the entire faculty and student body went down en masse to the Scottish Rite Cathedral after that first day of matriculation, eager to get acquainted with themselves and with Dallas. The affair was a brilliant success. The evening was a happy mixture of singing and speaking and- Grace Olives. Potatoes, au Ervay. MENU. Cliff Celery. Salted Munger Almonds. Brooklyn Lemonade. Fruit Salad, a la First. Roast Spring Chicken, Sensabaugh Style. with Methodist Dressing. Sweet Trinity Pickles. Green Peas, en Grand Prairie. Dressed Forest Tomatoes, avec Tyler Mayonnaise. Epworth Ice Cream. Assorted Oak Lawn Cakes. Demi Tasse S. M. U.
Organizations 'l'homas Jefferson hasn't a thing on us. For the first six months of the college year we drew up constitutions and signed documents and elected officers until we grew dizzy and fairly breathed in terms of articles and amendments. But we must establish "precedents," and ours was the blessed privilege of making them worthy ones--you know the story, so establish we did, and with a vengeance. ORGANIZATION OF THE S'l'UDENT BODY. The first student body of Southern Methodist University had its permanent organization on October 9th, 1915. At this time the Constitution was read and adopted and officers elected. Student activity for the first time took definite form and set about very definite proceedings. Southern Methodist University became indeed a living reality, and there swarmed the inevitable politics, clubs, societies, associations, fraternities, et cetera ad infinitum. Pax Vobiscum. ORGANIZATION OF Y. M. AND Y. W. C. A. The first student organizations to become active were the Christian Associations, which organized the last week in October. The girls' rest room and the bell in Rankin Hall will go down in history sacred to the memory of the first year of the S. M. U. Associations. UNIVERSITY CHURCH. Under the direction of Bishop E. D. Mouzon and Presiding Elder O. F. Sensabaugh, the University Methodist Church was organized on March 25. The Rev. J. Frank Smith was called as the first pastor in charge. LITERARY SOCIETIES ORGANIZED. On November 8th, 1915, there was formed among the men students of the University two literary societies, the one to be known as the Forum, the other as the Commons. Both, as the names might indicate, have as their aim not only intellectual advancement, but a greater efficiency in debate. THEOLOGS ORGANIZED. The theological students and all candidates for the ministry in Southern Methodist University were organized on January 28th into the Ministerial Association. 117
