Located at South Florida State College, this museum<br />

boasts several permanent and traveling exhibits that<br />

will delight those who are interested in the culture of<br />

our area. Permanent exhibits include displays on the<br />

archeology and history of Florida.<br />

While not technically a museum, the archives at the<br />

<strong>Sebring</strong> Historical Society are open to the public for<br />

research. There are some artifacts on display, but the<br />

main repository is photos and archived print materials.<br />

As part of “The Village Where Art Lives,” the Highlands<br />

MoTA features curated exhibits, both permanent<br />

and traveling. Art competitions and receptions<br />

are held in the building, while classes are featured in<br />

the other three buildings in the complex.<br />

Florida State College, is a<br />

1,460-seat, state-of-the-art<br />

venue on a level seldom seen<br />

in a community of our size.<br />

SFSC is also home to the<br />

Museum of Florida Art and<br />

Culture, home to an extensive<br />

collection of art and artifacts,<br />

including the famed<br />

Highwayman paintings.<br />

Picturesque railroad stations<br />

are home to historical museums<br />

in nearby Avon Park<br />

and Lake Placid. The historic<br />

<strong>Sebring</strong> railroad station, still<br />

in use for daily Amtrak service,<br />

has undergone restoration<br />

and has again become a<br />

favorite place to visit or just<br />

to watch the trains come<br />

and go.<br />

The Military Sea Services<br />

Museum honors the Navy,<br />

Marine Corps and Coast<br />

Guard with hundreds of artifacts,<br />

flags, ship and plane<br />

photos, uniforms and more.<br />

It also has the U.S.S. Highlands<br />

Room, which displays<br />

items from the ship named<br />

for Highlands County. The<br />

museum’s mission is to preserve<br />

and maintain the customs<br />

and traditions of the<br />

three military sea services.<br />

Civilian Conservation Corps Museum<br />

The CCC Museum is inside the gates of Highlands<br />

Hammock State Park and paid entrance into the<br />

park is required. Celebrating the Civilian Conservation<br />

Corps, which built many state parks nationwide<br />

during the 1930s, the museum building was actually<br />

constructed by the CCC.<br />

Military Sea Services Museum<br />

This museum is the only museum in the United<br />

States to honor the men and women of the Navy,<br />

Marines and Coast Guard who went to sea on behalf<br />

of our country. Items on display include uniforms,<br />

models of ships and other artifacts on permanent<br />

display to the public.<br />

HCA Galleries of Fine Art<br />

The HCA gallery at the <strong>Sebring</strong> Regional Airport is a<br />

constantly changing art museum that exhibits work<br />

of select local artists as one-person or group shows<br />

throughout the season. Exhibits change monthly<br />

with an artist’s reception usually the first Saturday of<br />

the month.<br />
