Did you know that the Australian Stay on Your Feet® model
from has been adapted as a regional strategy that supports
healthy active aging for older adults in the Champlain LHIN?
Falls are responsible for 40 per cent of all seniors’
admissions to long-term care homes. Seniors can prevent
falls by staying active, even in a long-term care home.
The adapted Stay on Your Feet® program consisting in tried
and true best practices will be available to all stakeholders
across the healthcare continuum in the Champlain region.
We are embarking on a journey at both homes to
optimise the resident council and better support our
residents through this meeting held by residents, for
residents.
The administrators, the resident council presidents
and two council support staff members attended a
workshop last March held by the Ontario
Association of Residents’ Councils (pictured right).
The next workshop is scheduled in June.
Module 11 from the Long-
From April 24 to 28, we celebrated Mission Week at Bruyère Continuing
Care. In order to thank the employees for everything they do each day
to live the Bruyère mission, the Mission Effectiveness Committee
offered coffee, tea and a small gift to all Bruyère employees.
The Therapeutic Support Services (TSS) team is
getting ready for another exciting season of Cycling
Without Age to be launched August 3. Contact Kim
at 613-562-6262, ext. 2568, or write to her at
KDurstMackenzie@bruyere.org to learn how
residents can sign up for a ride or how to volunteer
as a cycle-rickshaw pilot. Building on last year’s
huge success, the TSS team and the Bruyère CLRI
developed a colourful and practical guide that other
residences can use to set up this program.
With the help of a
designer, the family
council and the facilities
management team, we
are working on revamping
the lounges at the
residence. Artwork and
pillows were donated to
embellish the common
space and make it
welcoming and peaceful
Bruyère Continuing Care celebrated National Nursing
Week (May 8–14) by inviting all employees, physicians
and volunteers to participate in a video contest.
Anyone could vote for the best video by ‘liking it’ on
Bruyère’s Facebook page. Go check out the excellent
entries!
Bruyère’s nurses are superb examples of what it
means to be both professional and compassionate.
They demonstrate excellence in so many ways
including in clinical practice, leadership, education,
research and innovation.
