Religious Practices Committee – News and Notes Mark Wolkow & Melissa Brown As I write this, I am sitting here with mixed emotions. Having served as co-chair of the Religious Practices Committee for many years, I realize how much I have learned. I have had the opportunity to work with a wonderful team of dedicated individuals who have the best interest of the synagogue at heart. While being co-chair of the RPC can be a challenge at times, it is also very rewarding. After every High Holiday season, as stressful as it can be, the sense of accomplishment is so satisfying. While I will still remain a member of RPC, I will be handing off my co-chair hat to Melissa Brown. I want to thank Melissa for stepping up to this fulfilling position. I have to also thank my co-chair Mark Wolkow for his time and dedication to this committee. Without his knowledge, expertise and organization, this position would have been a difficult challenge for me. Mark made it easy and I have cherished all the time we worked closely together. Thank you to everyone on the committee. It takes a village! Remember, RPC is always looking for people to join the committee. Take a risk… you will find it very rewarding. Religious School News Jenn Bober & Cheryl Conley The Religious School Committee is proud to announce the recipients of the Yvette Kravitz Award and the Eileen Moss Memorial Award. The Yvette Kravitz Award is given to a member who has gone above and beyond on behalf of the Religious School students. This year’s honoree is Randi Chancey. Our children’s first Jewish learning experience is in Miss Randi’s room. They learn about being Jewish and about holidays; the Hebrew letters and blessings over food and drink. Her dedication to the students of the Adolph Nord Religious School spans many years and for that we are all thankful. Mazel Tov, Randi – We are so lucky to have you as a teacher! The Eileen Moss Memorial Award is given to a sixth-grade student who has shown exemplary attendance in Religious School and services, and has shown improvement in Hebrew skills throughout the midweek Religious School years. This year’s honoree is Rayna Drabinski, daughter of Wendy and Patrick. Rayna and her family are at services most weeks, and it shows in the classroom. Or is it that she is rarely absent from the classroom and it shows at services? Either way, Eileen would have recognized and applauded Rayna for showing up and participating in both. Mazel Tov, Rayna- We are proud of you and your accomplishments! Thank you to Dr. Dave for constructing the buzzer system for the end-of-year Festi-Bowl Tournament! The students particularly loved buzzing in against each other, and now teachers have another fun resource for the classroom. Many thanks to Brian Schorr for again solving “The Mystery of the Coins” by providing the namesake book for the winner of the Eileen Moss Award. This book was read by Morah Moss to all of her classes when she taught, and it subsequently went out of print. Thanks again for working your magic, Brian! And congrats to the winner Rayna Drabinski!
