Canada’s Sesquicentennial
J
uly 1, 1867 marks the Confederation of Canada. Upper and Lower Canada (Ontario and
Quebec), New Brunswick and Nova Scotia united into one country under the British
North America Act. Sir John A. Macdonald became the first Prime Minister. When
Manitoba joined the Dominion in 1870 Canada welcomed new immigrants to clear the prairies
and settle this vast land. As Ukrainian pioneers arrived, they participated and contributed to
nation building. Let us celebrate Canada Day and take pride in our Canadian Ukrainian legacy. УВ
