Karte von New York New York City is made up of five boroughs: Brooklyn,
Manhattan, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. Brooklyn is
only the third largest borough, but it has the largest population
– nearly 2.5 million people live there.
In the west of Brooklyn you find Manhattan - the most famous
borough of New York City. Manhattan is an island that is
surrounded (umringt) by the East River in the east and the
Hudson River in the west. Most of New York City’s tourist
attractions are located on this island, for example The Empire State Building and Central Park.
In the east of Manhattan is Queens – the biggest borough of New York City. About 2.2 million
people live here and that makes it to be the second most populous of all five boroughs. Queens
and Brooklyn are located on an island that is called Long Island.
If you want to watch baseball at the Yankee Stadium, you’ll have to go to The Bronx. Here you
can also visit the Bronx Zoo, the largest zoo in New York.
We call Staten Island “the forgotten borough” because it is less well-known than the other four
boroughs. It is located in the south of Manhattan. It is the second biggest but the least
populated borough – only 444 thousand people live there.
Karte von New York New York City is made up of five boroughs: Brooklyn,
Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and The Bronx. Brooklyn
has a beach in the south – an area that is called Coney Island.
Brooklyn is also well known for the Brooklyn Bridge – it crosses
East River and connects Brooklyn to Manhattan, the most
famous borough in New York City. It is the smallest borough –
only 1.5 million people live here – but it is also one of the most
densely (dicht) populated. Most of New York City’s tourist
attractions are located on this island.
For many Europeans, Queens is the first borough they’ll see because Kennedy Airport is
located here – the biggest international airport of the USA. Another famous place in Queens is
Flushing Meadows Corona Park where the annual (jährlich) US Open tennis tournament takes
place.
The Bronx is north of Manhattan. About 1.4 million people live in the second smallest borough
which is well-known as the birthplace of rap and hip hop.
We call Staten Island “the forgotten borough” because it is less well-known than the other
boroughs. On Staten Island are a lot of hills, lakes and parks. The most famous attraction is the
Staten Island Ferry that connects this island to Manhattan and goes past the Statue of Liberty.
