Student Testimony
"I am proud of what I have
accomplished this year,
especially since P.E. isn't my
strongest suit. I didn't expect to
win, but winning inspired me to
do better in the future.
The Olympian (Barbara
Edmonson) that came was
amazing! She told us about her
background and how she
became an Olympian for track &
Field. After that, she did a couple
of exercises with us and would
also play a few games. Coming
from a person who doesn't love
exercising, the games were
surprisingly fun! She pushed and
encouraged us to try our best,
and so I became more motivated.
Winner: Kayla!
Teacher Testimony
"As I was in the process of choosing the
one student who was the most
deserving of the award, I thought about
the most critical criteria that puts a
student at a disadvantage. I determined
that it was Body Mass Index (BMI).
Those students with BMIs not in the
Healthy Fitness Zone were more likely
not to pass 5 out of the 6 FitnessGram
categories. Of all my students passing 5
or more of the 6 categories, Kayla S.
had the highest BMI (28.4). She
overcame despite the odds being
against her."
