Suzhou Planning Bureau lists the site itself as a tentative urban regeneration site, and a
proposal of a “soft regeneration process” is explored in Semester 1 in the Design Studio 1 of
the Master of Architectural Design. Therefore, the Final Year Project will offer the possibility to
explore how to retain old people in this “village” after a process of “soft regeneration”, and
how to develop new forms of community housing. This will increase collaboration with the
Suzhou Planning Bureau at the research level and in regard to potential pilot projects.
Design Process
Use volume combined old form
and new form together to create
one workshop. As the model
showed, the location of the old
form is stabled, but the new
form is flexble. So I try different
combinations to find the best
circulation. The road could come
round the workshop, could go
througn in the workshop, or
could create some small plazza.

Concept
my concept is keep the old memory. It has three level. First is retain the whole old house which has high
building condition. Second is use the recycle brick to rebuild the house but use the old form. Third is use the
recycle birck to rebuild, use the new form.
