The Castle is also a cultural centre, hosting concerts, exhibitions,
stage plays, social gatherings and state receptions. The
Watchtower offers a wonderful vista over Ljubljana and its
surroundings, and visitors. There’s a permanent exhibition of
Slovenian History, and the Rustika gallery of cottage industry
and arts and crafts. The castle even has its own vineyard.
We had the pleasure of dining at the Gostilna Na gradu Restaurant
led by living legend chef Ana Roš and Valter Kramar.
The castle restaurant, that showcases modern Slovenian cuisine,
is now considered one of the most extraordinary dining
spots in the country. The food and service reflected the high
standards we found on our entire trip.

The Ljubljana Castle Funicular is a funicular railway that goes
from Krek Square near the Ljubljana Central Market to the
Castle.
Slovenian history and culture are celebrated here too. There
are spectacular public art installations at every turn, from
whimsical to classical Roman. Retail galleries offer everything
from abstract to impressionism from local artists. Dozens of
first rate museums and other cultural institutions are all within
walking distance of the city center.
