University Place will close parts of three
city streets to general traffic during this
month’s U.S. Open, including Grandview
Drive West along the east side of Chambers
Bay golf course.
Detour routes will be marked to divert
drivers who usually take Grandview. A total
of 89 residents whose only access to their
homes is off Grandview will receive passes
that allow them to continue to use the
street, said Gary Cooper, public works
director for University Place.

The closures are:
■ Cirque Drive West between
Bristonwood Drive West and Grandview.
■ Grandview between 48th
Street/Bristonwood and 64th Street West.
■ 64th Street West between Chambers
Creek Road West and Grandview.
City officials are warning residents to
expect traffic congestion in other parts of
the city during the U.S. Open, which runs
June 15-21.
In neighboring Steilacoom, the Town
Council adopted parking restrictions for
June, limiting to two hours parking in
much of the town’s historic district and “on
any street or road within town that is not
signed otherwise,” records show.

CLOSURES
Here’s a list of what will be closed at
and surrounding Chambers Bay before,
during and after the U.S. Open.
■ The North Meadow Parking Lot.
■ The Central Meadow, off-leash dog
areas, the bridge to the beach, the
beach and the southern section of the
Soundview Trail. The bridge, trail and
dog area are expected to reopen in
August. The meadow should follow in
spring 2016.
■ The North Meadow, the rest of the
Soundview Trail, the entry road to the
Central Meadow and the parking lot
and restroom for the Central Meadow.
Crews will reopen the trail, parking lot
and restroom as well as the entry road
in August. The meadow should open in
September.
■ Public meeting rooms in the Environmental
Services Building; expected
to reopen June 29.
■ Chambers Bay Golf Course, the
Playground by the Sound and the
Grandview Trail; should reopen June
26.
■ The Chambers Bay Grill; expected
to reopen June 26.
■ The Environmental Services Building,
ball fields, the remaining parking
lots, the Chambers Bay Pro Shop, and
the East Slope Trail. Parking lots at the
Environmental Services Building will
reopen June 23; those at Chambers
Bay will reopen June 24. The Environmental
Services Building and the
Pro Shop will reopen June 24. The trail
will return June 26; the ball fields on
Aug. 1.
■ The paved parking lot along Steilacoom
Boulevard by the baseball fields
at Fort Steilacoom Park; will reopen
June 22. The park will not close, but
visitors will be directed to different
entrances, depending on the availability
of parking. Workers will be at the
site to direct people.
