ATTRACTIONS
More than 200 years ago, Lewis & Clark passed through
Jefferson City on their famous exploration and we’re proud to
have several landmarks noted in their journals. Their journey
is celebrated and remembered by beautiful statues in the Lewis
& Clark trailhead plaza at Jefferson Landing just east of the
Capitol. Just as Lewis and Clark and those that followed them
discovered our beautiful landscape, we invite you to discover
all Jefferson City and our area has to offer.
By night or by day, the Capitol is the focal point of the city’s
skyline. The present capitol building was modeled after the
nation’s capitol and is made of Carthage marble quarried in
Carthage, Missouri. The Capitol is currently undergoing
some renovations in preparation for its 100th anniversary
celebration.
historic Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) is more than 180
years old (older than Alcatraz!). Don’t miss the opportunity
to tour MSP or visit the MSP Museum. (You can even take a
“ghost tour” of the old state pen.)
Be sure to stop at the Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, 700 E.
Capitol, which is housed in the historic Marmaduke House, the
former warden’s residence. The home also houses the Missouri
State Penitentiary Museum. You can contact the CVB at
The State Capitol, Supreme Court Building, Governor’s
Mansion and charming Downtown are just a few of the
architectural treasures that anchor our community. Visit
the one-of-a kind Veterinary Museum, Museum of Military
History, or Missouri State Museum. Cross the pedestrian/
bike bridge which connects the city to the Katy Trail, one
of Missouri’s most popular outdoor tourist attractions. The
