Travis Tritt performed at the 1st ever concert “Inside the Walls”. ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Arts and entertainment opportunities continue to grow in our community. From the first-ever concert “inside the walls” of the historic Missouri State Penitentiary, to new venues for comedy and music, to a growing list of festivals and special events, we’re happy to say the fine arts are alive and well in Jefferson City! If you’re looking for quality theatre or music programs, you can fill your calendar year round thanks to the Jefferson City Symphony, Symphonic Band, Cantorum, and other quality musical groups and theatre groups who entertain audiences with engaging concerts, musicals, dramas, faithbased productions, and dinner theatres. The Jefferson City Community Concert Association brings in guest artists for special concerts throughout the year. Concerts and movies on the Capitol lawn are sponsored by the Missouri River Regional Library and Jefferson City Parks & Recreation. Capital Jazzfest and Capital Street Art Fair, a free event, is growing in popularity. Salute to America, the capital city’s 4th of July celebration, brings in visitors from all across Missouri. Thursday Night Live in Downtown Jefferson City continues to grow and expand, offering live music and other activities in a festival atmosphere. And you don’t want to miss the Old Munichburg events such as their blues and brats festival and Oktoberfest. And, of course, our area high schools and Lincoln University along with our dance studios and ice skating clubs offer additional arts & entertainment opportunities. The Jefferson City Cultural Arts Commission is making an impact in our community with the visual arts, having recently commissioned statues, murals and decorative banners which add to our city’s beauty. Arts festivals and street fairs are also growing in popularity and several new art studios have opened in our community offering new opportunities for our local artists. Movie goers can enjoy their favorite shows at the Capital 8 Theaters or in the Capitol City Cinema, an independent, onescreen, theater in Downtown Jefferson City.
