State Technical College of Missouri<br />

Quality education is a community priority, and <strong>Jefferson</strong><br />

<strong>City</strong> and Cole County are proud to offer both public and<br />

private options meeting high standards for students from<br />

elementary school to high school and continuing on for postsecondary<br />

degrees.<br />

<strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>City</strong> Public Schools District continually strives to<br />

excel in student and staff achievement in all areas of academic<br />

and extra-curricular performance. The school district has 11<br />

elementary schools, an early childhood center, two middle<br />

schools, a 9th grade center and a high school. Nichols Career<br />

Center and <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>City</strong> Academic Center are also a part of<br />

the district and offer additional opportunities for students.<br />

In April the community passed a bond issue which includes<br />

updating the current high school and building a second high<br />

school which will open Fall 2019.<br />

Cole County also has award-winning schools in Russellville,<br />

Wardsville, and Eugene and parochial schools in Taos, St.<br />

Martins, Wardsville and Honey Creek.<br />

A number of faith-based and private programs are available<br />

in the community including Helias Catholic High School,<br />

Calvary Lutheran High School, Lighthouse Preparatory<br />

Academy, seven Catholic and two Lutheran grade schools<br />

and River Oak Christian School for elementary students,<br />

all of which provide exceptional education for students<br />

and benefit from the community’s tremendous support of<br />

academic quality. <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>City</strong> also has a large home-school<br />

association. The community also has a large variety of early<br />

childhood education programs and special services provided<br />

by the Special Learning Center and Kirchner School.<br />

<strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>City</strong> is also the proud home of numerous higher<br />

education institutions and is located within close proximity to<br />

several more. Local college and universities include Columbia<br />

College, Lincoln University, State Technical College of Missouri,<br />

Merrell University of Beauty Arts & Science, Metro Business<br />

College, Nichols Career Center, and William Woods University.<br />

Lincoln University is <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>City</strong>’s only land-grant higher<br />

education institution and celebrated its 150th anniversary in<br />

2016. Nearby college and universities include the University of<br />

Missouri, Westminster College, and Stephens College.<br />
