State Technical College of Missouri
Quality education is a community priority, and Jefferson
City and Cole County are proud to offer both public and
private options meeting high standards for students from
elementary school to high school and continuing on for postsecondary
degrees.
Jefferson City Public Schools District continually strives to
excel in student and staff achievement in all areas of academic
and extra-curricular performance. The school district has 11
elementary schools, an early childhood center, two middle
schools, a 9th grade center and a high school. Nichols Career
Center and Jefferson City Academic Center are also a part of
the district and offer additional opportunities for students.
In April the community passed a bond issue which includes
updating the current high school and building a second high
school which will open Fall 2019.
Cole County also has award-winning schools in Russellville,
Wardsville, and Eugene and parochial schools in Taos, St.
Martins, Wardsville and Honey Creek.
A number of faith-based and private programs are available
in the community including Helias Catholic High School,
Calvary Lutheran High School, Lighthouse Preparatory
Academy, seven Catholic and two Lutheran grade schools
and River Oak Christian School for elementary students,
all of which provide exceptional education for students
and benefit from the community’s tremendous support of
academic quality. Jefferson City also has a large home-school
association. The community also has a large variety of early
childhood education programs and special services provided
by the Special Learning Center and Kirchner School.
Jefferson City is also the proud home of numerous higher
education institutions and is located within close proximity to
several more. Local college and universities include Columbia
College, Lincoln University, State Technical College of Missouri,
Merrell University of Beauty Arts & Science, Metro Business
College, Nichols Career Center, and William Woods University.
Lincoln University is Jefferson City’s only land-grant higher
education institution and celebrated its 150th anniversary in
2016. Nearby college and universities include the University of
Missouri, Westminster College, and Stephens College.
