Pipistrel also offers a firewall forward modification kit for existing<br />

aircraft which has been sold to several manufacturers.<br />

The Emrax motor in this kit comes from the Slovenian<br />

company ENSTROJ d.o.o and has 40 or 60 kW. Pipistrel<br />

produces the engine and battery controller as well as the<br />

battery pack which are produced from cells which are combined<br />

and controlled in the Pipistrel factory.<br />

One of the secrets to so much innovation and many new<br />

products is Ivo’s team of engineers like his Chief Developer<br />

Tine Tomacic and the Hybrid Program Leader Igor Perkon<br />

which are not only brilliant but also know how to sell their<br />

ideas to others.<br />

Fuel Cell - The Alternative<br />

Fast and elegant: the Panthera is Pipistrels first 4-seat aircraft which will<br />

be offered with combustion engine and as a Hybrid.<br />

The ranking of the challenge was dependent on the fuel per<br />

passenger, so he combined 2 Taurus fuselages with an electric<br />

motor on a middle piece between the fuselages therefore<br />

beating all other competitors which only carried 2 persons.<br />

Also, the second placed E-Genius was based on<br />

the Taurus Motorglider. In 2014 Ivo surprised the aviation<br />

world again at the French Ultralight Tradeshow in Blois in<br />

September when he released the Watts-Up (later called the<br />

Alpha Electro.<br />

Although the energy density has grown a lot over the last<br />

decade the batteries are still the biggest problem in realizing<br />

electric <strong>flight</strong> for everybody. Hybrid with a combustion<br />

engine as a powersource is an option but the aircraft loses<br />

its green footprint because fuel is burned.<br />

Also, here Ivo Boscarol is active with the German National<br />

Aromautic Research Institute when it started the Hy4<br />

Project in October 2015. Partnered with the other companies<br />

is again Pipistrel.<br />

The DLR Aircraft is based on the NASA Green Flight<br />

Challenge winner G4 which is basically two fuselages of<br />

the Taurus Motorglider combined with 2 reinforced Taurus<br />

wings with extended wingspan and a middle part which<br />
