26 PLUMBHEAT SNIPEF DIARY to our attention by some members. This was a positive meeting with the prospect of a closer working relationship with Gas Safe in the future. September saw visits to both Scottish Water and Northern Ireland Water to discuss the requirement for approved contractors to issue compliance certificates and the possible ways in which this can be made easier and quicker. All parties are keen to move on with this and to work collaboratively to increase the number of certificates issued. In October I met with a representative of the Drinking Water Quality Regulator and we are working together to raise awareness of the number of these supplies in Scotland, many of which supply water which does not meet drinking water standards and can pose a risk to public health. There are grants available to property owners to bring their private water supplies up to standard and SNIPEF members with suitable skills and knowledge of private water supplies can inform clients of this funding and help owners achieve a wholesome water supply. In October and November I delivered two ACCS training courses, one for new members and one refresher, and as usual both were well attended. November was an extremely busy month for promoting the benefits of SNIPEF and increasing awareness of our organisation. 8th November saw myself and Ruth Gibb, who manages communications at SNIPEF, exhibit at the Scottish Association of Landlords exhibition in Edinburgh where we were kept very busy introducing the benefits of using SNIPEF members. We were very pleased with the positive responses of the delegates present. The Technical Event in Aberdeen on 11th November went well with a good turnout from members and we received positive feedback from the exhibitors who were very pleased with the interest shown by the delegates. On 16th November I was with the SEC Group Health and Safety Forum keeping up to date with the latest issues in health and safety within the construction industry. If anyone has an issue regarding health and safety that you’d like me to take to the next forum meeting please send them to me at technical@snipef.org. On 17th November I took part in the ACCS Scheme Providers meeting in Livingston, which is always a good opportunity to keep up to date with developments in the Certification Scheme and to share ideas on how to improve the Scheme for the future. The 23rd and 24th November was spent in Glasgow at the Scotland Build exhibition with Ruth Gibb and Andy Furnevel, Membership Officer – another busy two days promoting awareness of SNIPEF to all the delegates who were from a very wide range of organisations. It was also good to see some friendly faces amongst the throng including members and associate members. 2017 is shaping up to be even busier than this year so I’m looking forward to the Christmas break before making plans for more events and training, and continuing to advise members on the wide range of issues facing plumbing and heating contractors. ● WaterSafe – you’re a member Did you know that as a member of SNIPEF, you automatically join the UK-wide plumber accreditation scheme WaterSafe? WaterSafe was launched in 2013 to bring together the seven key plumbing schemes in the UK under one umbrella. It provides a one-stop-shop for customers searching for a qualified, professional plumbing business anywhere in the UK. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU? Being a member of WaterSafe gives you a listing on the online directory at www. watersafe.org.uk. Here customers can search for their nearest accredited plumber using a postcode search, confident they are employing a qualified, trusted trade. It also means you’re being promoted by key organisations, including Scottish Water and Northern Ireland Water, and The Met Office, which is promoting WaterSafe plumbers in its Get Ready for <strong>Winter</strong> campaign. HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED? There’s lots of easy ways to benefit from your WaterSafe membership, and the assurance it can provide your customers. As a member, you can: • Use the WaterSafe logo on your business cards, website, van and Twitter and Facebook accounts • Take part in WaterSafe campaigns to promote high plumbing standards. PLUMBER OF THE YEAR Shaun Scott, <strong>2016</strong> UK Plumber of the Year and SNIPEF member has taken part in a photoshoot for WaterSafe with his colleagues. He has also written a blog with advice on avoiding frozen and burst pipes, which has been widely published in the Scottish media.
