Lipstick Under My Burkha continues
to remain steady at the box office.
The film has performed very well on
its second weekend. The Alankrita
Shrivastava directorial opened to rave
reviews from critics and is enjoying
a good word of mouth publicity.
Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk is also
running steadily at the box office.
Lipstick Under My Burkha collected
10.96 crores in its first week. On its
second Friday, the film collected
another 94 lacs and went on to earn
1.37 crores on its second Saturday. The
film did a business of 1.45 crores on
its second Sunday, thereby taking its
second weekend total to 3.76 crores!
Taking the collections of the first
and second week, Lipstick Under My
Burkha has collected a total of 14.72
crores!

Salman Khan, Amazon In Global Streaming
Deal For Bollywood Star’s Movies
Amazon Prime Video is teaming
with Bollywood titan Salman Khan’s
Salman Khan Ventures in an exclusive
worldwide content deal. The streaming
service will become home to Khan’s
future films where they will premiere
immediately following theatrical
release, and two months ahead of
satellite and TV broadcast. It will also
include mega-hits Bajrangi Bhaijaan
and Kick. Financial terms were not
disclosed, although this is billed as one
of biggest star deals ever.
Britain’s 96-yr-old Prince
Philip to retire this week
London: London: Prince Philip, the
96-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth
II, will retire this week, conducting
the last of more than 22,200 solo public
engagements, the palace said on
Monday.
The Duke of Edinburgh, who served
as a naval officer during World War II,
will attend a parade of Royal Marines
at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday.
He is captain general of the commando
force.

Cabinet clears
proxy voting
for NRIs
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet
today cleared a proposal to extend
proxy voting to overseas Indians by
amending electoral laws, a senior
government functionary said.
For overseas Indians, the
Representation of the People Act needs
to be amended to include proxy voting
as other means to cast their votes.
While NRIs and overseas Indians are
free to cast their votes in constituencies
where they are registered, according
to the proposal, they would also be
allowed to use the option of proxy,
which as of now is only available to
service personnel.
An expert committee in the Election
Commission working on the issue had,
in 2015, forwarded the legal framework
to the law ministry to amend electoral
laws to allow overseas Indians use
proxy voting.
Data shows that only 10,000 to 12,000
NRIs have voted because they do not
want to spend foreign currency to come
to India and exercise their franchise.

A bench of Justice Madan B Lokur
and Justice Deepak Gupta on Monday
banned the use of the substances
in the manufacture of firecrackers
after senior officers of the Central
Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and
the Petroleum and Explosive Safety
Organisation (PESO) briefed the court
about their impact.
The court also directed CPCB and
PESO to lay down standards with
regard to the chemical composition of
firecrackers.
"Dr A B Akolkar, member secretary
of CPCB says it will take some time to
arrive at the standards and it will be
done by September 15, at the latest.
In the meanwhile, we direct that
no firecrackers manufactured by the
respondents (companies) shall contain
antimony, lithium, mercury, arsenic
and lead in any form whatsoever. It
is the responsibility of the PESO to
ensure compliance," the bench said.
The role of Diwali fireworks in
stoking pollution is a hotly debated
issue. It has been pointed out that
Diwali is a one-day affair celebrated
once every year and questions are
raised on whether such restrictions
can have lasting effects on curbing
pollution.
On the other hand, fireworks are
also a frequent part of weddings and,
sometimes, even birthday celebrations.
