8 Rumors Are
Here and They're
Not Great
There's new iPhone 8 news, and some of
it's not suuuuper great.
First bit of not great news: Reliable
tech blogs Mac Otakara and the Royal
Bank of Canada report that there's most
likely going to be a delay in the release
time. Mac Otakara says the phone won't
ship until the first quarter of fiscal
2018, which would mean October to
November.
“Based on incremental supply
chain data points that suggest a more
pronounced OLED iPhone delay...we
think the flagship device may not see
initial shipments until October with
volume shipments not occurring until
the November/December timeframe,"
said Royal Bank of Canada analyst Amit
Daryanani.
Another bummer: It looks like the
white color will no longer be an option.
Womp wah.
Finally, the blogs report that the
Touch ID feature is most likely
cancelled, because it won't be on the
power button and the chance of its
inclusion in-screen is slim. It's possible/
rumored that the Touch ID would be
replaced with a facial recognition
technology called ‘Face ID’.
But that's not the worst — as Forbes
reports, the iPhone 8 could cost as much
as $1,400. I guess start saving right
now?! I mean, you've got time.

The dates for the next big Amazon
sale have been announced by the
company, marking the beginning of
the festive season that will invariably
be accompanied by e-commerce sales.
The Amazon Great Indian Sale to
celebrate the upcoming Independence
Day will begin at 12am IST (midnight)
on August 9, and go on till 11:59pm IST
on August 12. There will be several
Amazon sale offers and "blockbuster
deals at never-seen-before prices," the
company has said. Of course, Prime
members will have early access to top

As part of the Great Indian Sale,

'MUNTRA'
COUNTRY'S FIRST
UNMANNED TANK, ROLLS
OUT FROM THE CHENNAI LAB
Defence Research and Development
Organisation (DRDO) has developed
India's first unmanned tank, which
has three variants – surveillance,
mine detection and reconnaissance
in areas with nuclear and bio
threats. It is called Muntra (Mission
UNmanned TRAcked) and has been
rolled out of the Chennai lab.
According to The Times of India,
though the tank has been developed
and tested for the army by Combat
Vehicles Research and Development
Establishment (CVRDE) in Avadi,
paramilitary has expressed interest to
use them in Naxal-hit areas.
The tanks will facilitate Indian
Armed forces in conducting unmanned
surveillance missions. Muntra-S
has been developed for unmanned
surveillance missions, whereas
Muntra-M is built for detecting mines.
Muntra-N will be deployed in areas
where nuclear radiation or bio weapon
risk is high, The Daily Bhaskar
reported.

Acer on Monday launched its Nitro 5
gaming laptop with seventh-generation
Intel core processors in India at a
starting price of Rs. 75,990.
The Acer Nitro 5 sports a 15.6-inch
full-HD (1920x1080 pixels) IPS display
and is available with up to seventhgeneration
Intel Core i7 processor
coupled with 16GB of RAM. In terms of
graphics, the laptop comes with either
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 or GeForce
1050Ti GPU with 4GB GDDR5 RAM.
The tanks have been tested and
validated at Mahajan field firing range
in Rajasthan. The Muntra tanks have
surveillance radar, an integrated
camera along with laser range finder,
which can be used to spy on ground
target about 15 kilometres away.
Two of these tanks were put on
display at an exhibition organised by
DRDO as a tribute to former president
APJ Abdul Kalam.
Besides heavy weights, the DRDO
also showcased a few inventions like a
handheld wall penetration radar which
if placed on a wall will project on a
screen the presence of people inside a
building.
DRDO chairman S Christopher was
quoted by Business Insider as saying
that the organisation was working
on installing AWAC (Airborne Early
Warning and Control System) on
an A330 aircraft. The system is now
perfected for use on a smaller Embraer
plane.
Users get up to 128GB SSD paired with
1TB HDD storage.
The Acer Dolby Audio Premium
and Acer TrueHarmony features
provide "incredible sound depth, wider
bass, surround sound and crystal
clear clarity to provide immersive
experiences for gaming or watching
movies," the company said in its
release.
The new Acer laptop is already
available for purchase in the country
from Flipkart as well as Acer Stores.
Facebook
robot is shut
down after
it ‘invented
its own
language’
Scientists have switched off
Facebook’s robot because it has
reportedly created its own language
Researchers noticed that Artificial
Intelligence they had created has
started to make up their own code
words.
Initially it looks like absolute
gibberish, but it became clear that the
machines – nicknamed Bob and Alice –
were actually communicating with one
another.
In a Frankenstein twist on their
research, the robot abruptly stopped
using English and could only be
understood by other AI.
It comes after other AI developed in a
similar pattern elsewhere, like when
Google Translate invented its own
language.
The so-called ‘neutral network’
started translating phrases easier
using it’s own language, according to
the New Scientist.
Bob was reported by Digital Journal
to have said: ‘I can i i everything else’.
To which Alice replied: ‘balls have
zero to me to me to me…’
It is thought that the robots were
trying to resolve problems they had
encountered because ‘I’ and ‘to me’
reflects problems one AI is having
and the response from a so-called
‘negotiating agent’.
Scientists have built the robots to
switch to more efficient call-andresponses,
but it ended up being
gibberish to humans.
‘There was no reward to sticking
to English language,’ Georgia Tech
scientist Dhruv Batra told Fast Co.
Design.
‘If I say “the” five times, you interpret
that to mean I want five copies of this
item. This isn’t so different from the
way communities of humans create
shorthands’.
Although Facebook switched their
robots off, the AI at Google encouraged
the reporters and they have continued
to use their ‘neutral network’.
