Darlaston”, the Boss, Club Secretary and 35-year servant of the club Gil Preece
was there to greet the group and give permission for them to walk on his
hallowed turf the main pitch. The group started firing all kind of questions about
the ground at him straight away, Gil not only answered them but he showed and
demonstrated most of his answers, Gil was fantastic with the lads taking time
and even allowing some of the group to help in the preparation on the pitch for
the game the following day.
So, the big event was upon us, the eagerly awaited Goalie Wars Competition, it
was winner takes all. The battles some very tough, were fought hard but fair and
there were, but we had
a winner Ben Shields
and our runner up
Callum Cushley, both
winning signed balls
from the first team, so
the camp came to an
end, we looked around
an saw a group of long
sad faces because the
group didn’t want it to
end.
Over the duration of
the course we ran a
competition with the
winner being todays
mascot for the first
game of the season Darlaston against Old Wulfrunians at The Paycare Ground.
The lads earned and were awarded points for the tasks they completed during
the camp, points were given for doing different things for example: coming with
clean boots every day, helping to clear up, answering question how well they
trained, participation with the guests and how they interacted with their fellow
keepers in the group. Over the three days it became intense, with everyone keen
to earn the points need to take the prize, the winner announced just before
everyone left to go home was Olly Shea-Quinn, Olly today will experience a
behind the scenes match day experience, meeting the players, taking part in the
pre match warm up, the first team keepers Mozza (Aaron Morris) and Jay (Jay
Handley) will also present Ollie with a signed pair of gloves. Congratulations and
well done Olly from Shaun and everyone at the club.
I have only mentioned a fraction of what the group did and we will be holding
more Camps during the School holidays. If your area interested speak to Shaun,
or keep an eye on the club website www.darlastontown1874fc.com, together
with our Facebook and Twitter pages to find out when the Camps will be taking
place in the future.
