The Chairman's Notes
Today we open our 2017/18 league campaign and extend a
warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Old
Wulfs. Win lose or draw today our visitors are most welcome to
join us after the game for our award-winning hospitality.
Well here we go, another football season and of course every
club starts full of optimism and we are no different. A new era
starts today at The Paycare Ground with numerous comings
and goings in pre-season all leading to a renewed sense of
cautious optimism on and off the field.
Following Scott Bamford's spell as caretaker manager at the end of last season we
decided to advertise the manager's position, consequently the previous management
team all left. Mark McIntyre match secretary, programme editor and media man also
tendered his resignation separately. Following a selection process we appointed Andy
Parkes as our new manager. Andy is a Darlaston man and has already made a major
impression on us with his style of play, passion, professionalism, coaching qualities
and ability to attract good quality players. Andy’s assistant is Andy “Tommo” Thomas,
Shaun Bolton is goalkeeping coach with Stephen “Coyney” Coyne and Joel Waite
completing Andy’s backroom team. All live locally and I know every supporter will give
Andy and his team their 100% support and commitment. Several players left or did
not feature in Andy’s plans whilst 10 players from last season’s squad have signed
together with 16 new additions.
Also joining the club is Simon Cox as match secretary, programme editor and media
and marketing manager. Simon has been magnificent since his arrival, the Facebook
pages, website and official matchday programme have all improved beyond
recognition. Off the field we have secured 4 new sponsors PAL Group, KTC Edible Oils,
Wednesbury Trade Centre and Trevor Bomber Chartered Accountants.
There has been an awful lot of hard work going on behind the scenes which is not
always obvious. The home dressing room has been refurbished, the referees room
“spruced up”, the dance floor sanded and polished, carpets cleaned, minor repairs
undertaken, privet and hedges trimmed and the site cleared of all surplus furniture,
equipment and rubbish.
So as I say a new era starts today. From the Chairman to the management and players
I say we know there will be ups and downs but please at all times represent the club
and town with pride. To our unbelievable supporters I say thank you for your
magnificent support, enjoy the game and enjoy the season
