Vacancy: <strong>Graphic</strong> <strong>Designer</strong> Position<br />

The <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> is seeking an energetic and highly creative individual to be part of our<br />

Communications team as <strong>Graphic</strong> <strong>Designer</strong>.<br />

This role offers an opportunity to work in a creative organisation, alongside directors,<br />

writers and a diverse mix of theatre professionals to create print and digital material to<br />

represent the <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> brand. We’re looking for a designer with a minimum of three<br />

to four years design experience and an ability to create an iconic and engaging visual<br />

identity.<br />

This is a great opportunity for an experienced graphic designer to hone their design skills<br />

with an internationally renowned brand in a cultural organisation that represents the past,<br />

present and future of Irish theatre. The role also involves opportunities to work closely<br />

with our design agency, Zero-G on large-scale marketing campaigns to promote <strong>Abbey</strong><br />

productions and activities.<br />

that actively engages and reflects Irish society: we place the writer and the theatre artist at<br />

the heart of the <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong>.<br />

The <strong>Abbey</strong> produces a year round programme of productions, public readings, special<br />

events, workshops and artistic development work. We commission and produce work on<br />

our stages and on tour, which not only showcases Irish and international theatre but also<br />

engages with the artistic and civic life of contemporary Ireland.

KEY REQUIREMENTS<br />

<strong>Graphic</strong> design qualification and at least three to four years relevant experience<br />

Demonstrable ability to work across print and digital projects<br />

A strong conceptual thinker and ability to think creatively<br />

Commitment to working as part of a team and experience of team-work<br />

Possess excellent organisational and time management skills and be capable of<br />

juggling multiple projects<br />

Experience of working with a marketing team is preferable<br />

Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Print production, digital production<br />

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

Duties will include, but will not be limited to, the responsibilities outlined below:<br />

Design<br />

Produce print and digital content to represent all <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> departments<br />

including <strong>Abbey</strong> Talks series, Literary Department programmes, Community and<br />

Education projects, Development / Fundraising initiatives, Membership collateral and<br />

Merchandise<br />

Artwork advertisements, posters, signage, programmes and other collateral<br />

Act as an ambassador for the <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> brand and visual identity and monitor<br />

consistency of the <strong>Abbey</strong> identity<br />

Print Management<br />

Prepare files for litho and digital work<br />

Liaise with printers to manage print specifications, budgeting, quality and delivery of<br />

print material and services<br />

Online<br />

Develop graphics and content on the <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> website,<br />

e-communications and social media sites<br />

Design e-newsletters and e-flyers for external and internal distribution<br />

Produce artwork for online advertising campaigns<br />

General<br />

Keep up-to-date with developments in design, in advertising, print and digital media<br />

Act as support to the Communications Department and undertake any other tasks as<br />

may be deemed reasonable and appropriate<br />

Network and represent the <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> at industry events and internal events<br />

Establish strong relationships within the arts community

Support the work of the Marketing Manager and Head of Communications and<br />

undertake any other tasks as may be deemed reasonable and appropriate<br />

Input purchases to Opera, the <strong>Abbey</strong>’s financial management system<br />

Written and spoken Irish an advantage but not a requirement<br />

External <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> customers, Zero-G, Design by<br />

TERMS AND CONDITIONS<br />

Front, website designers, media buying agencies,<br />

media outlets, print services providers<br />

Post: This is a Full Time Permanent post with the <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong>.<br />

Hours: 09.30 to 17.30<br />

This post requires attendance at performances, travel and events outside of normal hours<br />

Annual Salary: Salary commensurate with skills and experience<br />

Probationary period: 6 months<br />

Holidays: 24 days per annum<br />

(including Good Friday & Christmas Eve)<br />

Public Holidays: 9 Public holidays per annum<br />

Pension: The <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> provides employees with access to a Personal Retirement<br />

Savings Account (PRSA) and will match contributions up to 5.5% of salary. Employees<br />

must contribute a min. of 3% to avail of employer contributions. Contributions are made<br />

through payroll.<br />

Life Assurance: The <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> Group Life Assurance plan provides a benefit to all<br />

employees of 4 times annual salary in the event of death while in service.<br />

Health Insurance: Employees are provided with the option to join the <strong>Abbey</strong> <strong>Theatre</strong> –<br />

VHI Group Scheme. Participant employees receive a 10% discount on any VHI plan and<br />

the subscription is deducted through payroll.
