I congratulate the Plaza Filipino and NARRA Co-operative for their
annual Tribute to Fathers and Mothers celebrations. Every year you
provide an opportunity for parents in the area to come together and
celebrate, acknowledge and appreciate families and the tireless work
of parents to care for their families.
It is also an opportunity for the Filipino-Australian community to
come together and showcase their culture through dance and song. I
commend the Co-operative for being active, engaging and providing an
opportunity for the community to appreciate their cultural heritage.
I thank you for all that you have done and continue to do, and I am honoured to be part
of these memorable occasions.
Federal Member for Fowler
Message
I wish to congratulate the Plaza Filipino Inc and NARRA Co-operative Ltd for this fantastic
initiative. After all, there is nothing more important in life than family.
When I first became a paediatrician, I learnt very quickly that I had to listen to mothers
and fathers -because I knew they always had their child’s best interest at heart. I know
that when a child is sick or suffering it is the unconditional love and support from their
parents that gets them through.
I see this today in my role as a Member of Parliament, when meeting with constituents
throughout my community who seek to build a better future for the next generation.
There is nothing more fulfilling in life than nurturing a child, and being able to support and
guide children through life. One never ceases to be a parent, no matter your age. This parental
support has always been integral to the Filipino Community and therefore it is only fitting that a
tribute be given to mothers and fathers.
The Macarthur region is truly lucky to have such a vibrant Filipino-Australian community, who contribute to the
diversity and prosperity of our society. I wish to thank them for their ongoing contributions to our community,
and congratulate them for the emphasis placed on the role that the family unit has in society.
As a son, a father and a grandfather I would like to pay tribute to all the amazing mothers and fathers.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Mike Freelander
Federal Member for Macarthur

Message
I am pleased to extend my heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the Plaza Filipino
Inc and NARRA Co-operative Ltd as you pay tribute to Fathers and Mothers.
I commend your organization for annually holding this notable event that celebrates
the Filipino’s value for family wherever we are in the world and reminds us
that our communities are built upon families as the basic units of our society. I
join you in honoring all those who have dedicated their lives in creating a better
world for our children.
The Philippine-Australian Arts, Culture and Innovation Central is a source of pride
for the Filipino community. May the ACI Central continue to serve as a venue for
promoting Filipino culture and heritage in Australia and in nurturing the values of family,
community and nation-building.
We thank you for your contributions to enhancing our steadfast and historic friendship between the
Philippines and Australia and assure you of the continued support of the Philippine Embassy in Australia.
All the best and Mabuhay!
Congratulations to the officers and members of Plaza Filipino Inc.
Fathers and Mothers on 3 September.
For almost six years now that I have been serving at the Philippine
Philippine culture and heritage.
Having seen how Plaza Filipino Inc. and NARRA Co-operative Ltd has
actively raised awareness of Philippine culture and heritage among the next generation of
Filipino-Australians and the wider Australian society, it is my hope that you will continue
with this important work long after I have finished my tour of duty in Sydney later this
Message
I am proud to congratulate Plaza Filipino Inc. and NARRA Co-operative Ltd on once
again celebrating the selfless contributions made to our community by both mothers and
fathers.
The Annual Tribute to Father and Mothers allows our community to acknowledge the
achievements of the Filipino community in our region and, indeed, all over the world.
The annual tribute takes the time to appreciate the sacrifices parents make out of love and
in hope for a prosperous future for their children. As a father, I know it is not always easy,
you are a source of unwavering love, support and guidance, and for that I pay homage to
all the amazing parents in our community.
The Tribute to Fathers and Mothers allows us also to acknowledge all that makes Filipino-Australian
culture great. This community is one of the most vibrant, family orientated and
engaging communities in our society and it is great to take the time out of our busy lives to celebrate this tribute.
The Macarthur region is one of the most diverse, multicultural communities in all of Sydney, and the Filipino
community plays an integral role in making Campbelltown the colourful community it is – a truly wonderful
place to raise a family.
I thank Plaza Filipino Inc. and NARRA Co-operative Ltd for organising this fantastic event and take the opportunity
to pay tribute to all fathers and mothers in our community. The depths of parental love deserves to be
acknowledged and celebrated.
Pagbati at salamat sa lahat ng mga magulang
Member for Campbelltown
Message
I congratulate Plaza Filipino Inc and NARRA Cooperative Ltd in recognising
outstanding Fathers and Mothers through today’s annual tribute event.
The contribution of dads and mums to their families and communities
often goes without acknowledgement, making this celebration of today’s
worthy honourees, and of all parents and grandparents, particularly special.
An event such as this reflects how Filipino people value their parents, grandparents
and family, and sets an example to the wider community, of which
you should be very proud.
The event also provides us with an opportunity to celebrate Filipino culture, and to thank our
local Filipino community for their significant contributions to Campbelltown.
I congratulate all of those involved in the organisation of today’s event, and hope everyone here
takes away the important message that parents should be loved, cherished and valued, not only
today but every day.
Cr George Brticevic
Mayor of Campbelltown

Message
Tribute to Fathers and Mothers is another symbolic event which will
treasured in everyone’s heart. Recognizing the accomplishments of
Fathers and Mothers because of their significant contributions to the
Filipino Community is laudable and commendable.
I wish to convey my wholehearted congratulations to the Plaza Filipino
Inc. headed by Michelle Baltazar and the NARRA cooperative Filipino
Inc. headed by Dr. Jimmy Lopez whose efforts including their past
presidents have acquired a Filipino Centre for multi purpose use. This is
a very good model that each State and Territory should emulate.
FILCCA commends you both and all your officers for your leadership. We wish your
event a great success.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Fathers and Mothers recognised today.
(Sgd) DANTE C. MARIBBAY
President FILCCA
Message
First of all, I would like to congratulate the officers and members of the Plaza Filipino,
Inc. and the Narra Co-operative Ltd group for holding this beautiful event to honour
two of the most important people in our lives, our Fathers and the Mothers. The Parents
are the life givers who don’t flaunt or boast about their sacrifices because for them,
sacrifices are expressions of love. Some chose not to have children because it is an
ultimate sacrifice. To be blessed with a child is truly the best gift that can be bestowed
upon any human being.
I would also like to express my thanks to Management for inviting me and giving me the
opportunity to say some words in my role as the President of the Philippine Community
Council of New South Wales.
I would like to commend Plaza Filipino and Narra Cooperative for being able to acquire a
Filipino Community Centre, a dream that was considered impossible to achieve. Yet here is ACI Central, defying
the impossible. Having had the privilege of knowing Jimmy Lopez, I understand firsthand how this dream
became a reality. His vision and commitment to achieving this goal are unsurpassable. Of course, Jimmy could
not do it alone and has been the beneficiary of everyone’s support and hard work. As a President, I truly appreciate
the value of team work and harmony in an organisation.
Congratulations to you Jimmy and your team on what you have achieved and wish you a very successful event.
Mabuhay!!!
The Alliance of Philippine Community Organizations, (APCO)
Inc. NSW conveys its heartfelt congratulations to NARRA Coop.
Ltd. and Plaza Filipino for their yearly observance of Tribute to
Mothers and Fathers.
In a value-oriented family, looking back at what our responsible
mothers and fathers have imbibed in us or reared us up - with all
the good virtues and skills that equip us in life and to be worthy
members of society; it is just right to give them reverence and respect
in this time of reflection – the Tribute to Mothers and Fathers.
We, in APCO, commend this gesture you give our forebears and wish you more
success in the years to come.
APCO President
Message
Inspiring the next generation
This year I celebrate my 14 years of community volunteering for various fundraisers and activities. Fourteen
years is a long time and on reflection, I feel blessed at the opportunities opened up to me to help our
community here in Australia and overseas.
At the same time, it has also made me reflect on the community volunteering efforts of other individuals
around me, not least of them my fellow members and officers at Plaza Filipino; the founding members
and supporters of the association; as well as the founding members, officers and supporters of NARRA
Co-op.
Many of them have devoted even more years than I have, some counting decades in community leadership.
I would like to think that, together, we have helped pave a brighter future for Filipinos in the Philippines
who have benefited from our various fundraising efforts; and in Australia, assisted our own community and
the broader society through our various community-building, arts and culture, and support programs.
The question then is, where to next? On behalf of my fellow members, officers and other Plaza Filipino stakeholders, the
next chapter in the development of our community here in Australia is to build a lasting legacy. This time, it’s a legacy fit for the next
generation – the construction and development of a Cultural Centre that we can all be proud of.
The Philippine-Australian Arts, Culture & Innovation (ACI) Central is just the first step. Through ACI Central and the various
workshops and activities we hosted since the start of the year, we hope that more Filipino-Australians can see our vision. To build a
multi-million dollar cultural centre is going to be challenging, but achievable. It is through fundraising activities, such as this year’s
Tribute to Mothers and Fathers, that we get one step closer to that dream.
I’d like to thank everyone who is here to join us on this special occasion and fundraising event. Your continued support energises all of
us at Plaza Filipino to keep our sights set on our goals.
United in our vision, nothing is impossible.
(Sgd) Michelle Baltazar
President, Plaza Filipino Inc

Message
2017 is the 10th year since the inception of the Global Ilocanos Australia Inc. The organization
is not only for the Ilocanos in Australia but we pride ourselves being joined by friends
from other regions of the Philippines, who are very passionate, enthusiastic, courageous,
committed and happy to serve the purpose and projects of the group.
The Tribute to Parents fund raising has been the project of Global Ilocanos Australia in
collaboration with Plaza Filipino since 2007 whereby the Illawarra Filipino and Multicultural
Women’s Group has been strongly involved. The fund raising event has enhanced
the role of parents showcased by the number of enthusiastic and proud participants and
fundraisers who wholeheartedly shared their time and efforts for the success of the organizations.
We are very proud that right from the first celebration of the Tribute to Parents 10 years ago, we
already attracted other non-Ilocano Filipino migrants in Australia and even Australians to join the group. The
group has been able to help the needy Filipinos struck by calamities back in the Philippines.
We are grateful for the opportunity given to us and hope that more Filipino Australians will open their hearts and
share not just financial and material but also physical and emotional help and strengthen their courage to reach
out and assist.
Thank you and best wishes for a stronger commitment to continue to endeavor the invaluable efforts of everyone
to achieve and deliver with pride the purposes of Global Ilocanos Australia Inc and Plaza Filipino Inc. God bless
and greater success now and for the future.
to all fathers the verse from Scripture, Ephesians 6:4: “Fathers, do not exasperate your
children; instead bring them up in the training and instruction in the Lord.” Fathers must
surrender any right they may feel they have to act unreasonably towards their children.
qualifications is no match to being a professional father. This is something he
learned from experience with an amount of emotional and mental struggle and
society’s expectations. Since Richard’s marriage to Dian he has learnt so much
about Filipino family values.
