MESSAGE
I write to congratulate the Plaza Filipino for their 15 Year Anniversary and NARRA Co-operative for their 5 Year Anniversary. This
The Filipino-Australian community work tirelessly in promoting and preserving their culture,
for communities to come together to love and respect one another, maintain close
family ties and show appreciation for the unconditional love and support families
provide to one another.
Since the establishment of NARRA, the community has amenities available to them
to continue to provide individuals with a place to gather and host functions, cultural
and sporting events as well as hold general meetings.
I wish to congratulate the NARRA President Jimmy Lopez, Plaza Filipino President
Michelle Baltazar and all of the other Board Members for their tireless dedication and
Chief Opposition Whip
MESSAGE
I wish to congratulate the Plaza Filipino Inc and NARRA Co-operative Ltd for this fantastic initiative. After all, there
is nothing more important in life than family.
Early on in my career, my experiences as a paediatrician taught me the importance of listening to the concerns of the mothers
and fathers, as I know that they always have their child’s best interest at heart.
I see this today in my role as a Member of Parliament, when meeting with constituents throughout my community who seek to
build a better future for the next generation.
I believe that there is nothing more fulfilling in life than nurturing a child, and being able to support and guide children through
the surprises and struggles of life is more than a job for mothers and fathers; it is a priceless duty.
One never ceases to be a parent, no matter your age. This parental support has always been
integral to the Filipino Community and therefore it is only fitting that a tribute be given to
mothers and fathers for their important role in our society.
Macarthur is truly lucky to have such a vibrant Filipino-Australian community, whose active
contribution to the region is widely noted and regarded. I wish to thank them for their
ongoing involvement in our society, as well as congratulating them for the strong emphasis
placed on the role of the family unit in our society.
As a son, a father and a grandfather I would like to pay tribute to all the amazing mothers and
fathers. The role mothers and fathers play in our society are often overlooked and undervalued;
and as such, I once again thank the Plaza Filipino Inc and NARRA Co-operative Ltd for
presenting this wonderful tribute.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Mike Freelander
Federal Member for Macarthur

MESSAGE
I am proud to congratulate Plaza Filipino Inc. and NARRA Co-operative Ltd on once again celebrating the selfless contributions
made to our community by both mothers and fathers.
The Annual Tribute to Father and Mothers allows our community to acknowledge the achievements of the Filipino community in
our region and, indeed, all over the world.
The annual tribute takes the time to appreciate the sacrifices parents make out of love and in hope for a prosperous future for their
children.
As a father, I know it is not always easy, you are a source of unwavering love, support and
guidance, and for that I pay homage to all the amazing parents in our community.
The Tribute to Fathers and Mothers allows us also to acknowledge all that makes Filipino-
Australian culture great. This community is one of the most vibrant, family orientated and
engaging communities in our society and it is great to take the time out of our busy lives to
celebrate this tribute.
The Macarthur region is one of the most diverse, multicultural communities in all of Sydney,
and the Filipino community plays an integral role in making Campbelltown the colourful
community it is – a truly wonderful place to raise a family.
I thank Plaza Filipino Inc. and NARRA Co-operative Ltd for organising this fantastic event
and take the opportunity to pay tribute to all fathers and mothers in our community. The
depth of parental love deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated.
Pagbati at salamat sa lahat ng mga magulang!
MESSAGE
It is with great pleasure that I note the Plaza Filipino Inc and NARRA Cooperative Ltd is
The Filipino people are known for their strong commitment to family values and the respect and honour
in which they hold their parents, grandparents and all senior members of the community.
Parents and grandparents are often the unsung heroes of our families and
communities, from the practical support they offer in raising children, caring for
the sick and myriad everyday tasks, to emotional support and wisdom.
Today’s celebration is not only an opportunity to acknowledge its worthy
honourees, but all parents and grandparents for the special place they hold in
our hearts and the community.
It is also an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful Filipino culture, and to
thank our local Filipino community for the many contributions they make to
the life of Campbelltown City.
I congratulate all of those involved in organising today’s event, and send a
MESSAGE
First of all, I would like to convey my heartfelt congratulations to Plaza Filipino Inc., Narra Cooperative
and Global Ilocanos Australia for hosting an event that honours such wonderful people,
our fathers and mothers.
Indeed, our parents are truly deserving of this event not just for bringing us into this world, but also for
the sacrifices they continue to make to give each one of us a great life. A wise man once told me that any
man or a woman can have a child, but it takes truly special people to be parents. To
be a good father and mother requires selflessness and unconditional love and
respect. It meant that parents defer many of their own needs and desires to
provide for the needs of their children. It is just fitting and proper to give
them this wonderful tribute today to honour and celebrate them.
In addition to hosting this memorable event, I would again like to
congratulate Plaza Filipino Inc. and NARRA Co-operative Ltd for achieving
the objective of acquiring a Filipino Community Centre that will provide
amenities for community and religious organizations to hold their
meetings, social functions, sports and cultural events.
Congratulations once again, God bless you all and enjoy the evening.
MESSAGE
It is my pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to the National Affiliation of Responsible and Respectable
Associations, Inc. (NARRA), Plaza Filipino and Global Ilocanos for organizing the 2018 Tribute to Fathers
and Mothers. Held annually, your organizations have been giving recognition and honour to parents
they be emotional, personal or financial. The Filipino Australian
younger generations are inspired by their parents’ wisdom and life
experience.
I congratulate NARRA and Plaza Filipino for dedicating this
event for the Fathers and Mothers who continue to share their
vital role in shaping the future of the community and the
country as a whole.
On behalf of the Alliance of Philippine Community Organisations
MESSAGE
On behalf of the officers and members Plaza Filipino, I would like to extend my gratitude for your tireless support in our annual
fundraiser – the Tribute to Mothers and Fathers night. It is an evening that allows us to showcase our Filipino culture and in particular,
our love for our family and appreciation for what our parents do for us and the community we live in.
I would like to acknowledge this year’s honorees and thank them for their fundraising efforts. The achievements of Narra Co-op,
including the purchase of two properties, in which Plaza Filipino’s fundraising proceeds have also gone into, wouldn’t be possible without the
individuals who have lent their financial support this year and in previous years.
This year, we embarked on a celebration of our dual heritage – our Philippine and Australian identity. In
August this year, Reserve Bank governor Dr Philip Lowe said that Australia’s higher than average population
growth – driven by immigration – is one of the reasons that the Australian economy has enjoyed
better-than-expected economic growth. As one of the top 10 migrant communities in the country,
Filipino-Australians can stand proud in our role in that, particularly as many of our kababayans
have pursued professional careers in the healthcare industry or became small business owners,
both of which are important cogs in the Australian economy.
But to continue to enrich our lives, we must continue to nurture our cultural identity and
ensure that future generations of Filipino-Australians are well-versed in their Philippine heritage.
Occasions such as tonight, which helps our fundraising efforts towards our community
centre – the ACI Central – is a platform to nurture our cultural roots.
I would like to use this opportunity to call on NARRA Co-op and Plaza Filipino members
and officers to stand proud. In the last 12 months, you have been instrumental in various
fundraising projects, none of which would have been possible without teamwork. I would also
like to thank community organisation Adhika, Inc for collaborating with us at last year’s PAMA-
NA Ball. Collaboration in the community is the key to our future success.
Finally, to everyone who has lent their support tonight – from our esteemed guests, honorees,
volunteers, family and friends – it is our hope that you will continue to enjoy the fruits of our
labour. ACI Central is the home of various cultural activities and everyone is welcome to visit and
participate – the door is always open.
Mabuhay! Thank you for your continued support.
and Bob Reyes from Plaza Filipino; together with Albert Prias and Charles Chan from Flagcom; Josie and Gerry Musa from Adhika; and
Filipinas Dance Group of Emma Braceros. We also joined the PCC Philippine National Day Ball and Pista sa Nayon Independence Day
Celebration of APCO.
Looking at our Financial Statement as of 30 June 2018, the Net Assets is $255,503 compared to $174,290 in 2017, the increase
is due to the acquisition of Shop 2, the second investment property. The Subscribed Capital Stock is $226,600 while $164,700 in
2017. The Net Income is $19,313 compared with $912 in 2017.
Congratulations and thank you to our new Bronze Legacy supporters Brian Babon. Remigio Biala and Emmie Nickolau.
To sum it up, I would like to reiterate my thank you to my co-officers and members, all our honorees, and our
family and friends especially my wife Myrma Lopez and Narra investors Anna Yuan and Vicky Chew. With your
continued and unselfish support, we will soon be able to pay in full our Centre for Culture and the Arts which is
an initiative of Narra Co-op Ltd and Plaza Filipino Inc.
MESSAGE
Year 2017 has been another year full of successful events, fund raisings, socialisation,
promotion, wider participation and integration to the multicultural society of Australia.
The yearly “Mother & Father of the Year” and “Ambassador of Arts & Culture” events hosted by
Narra Cooperative, Plaza Filipino and Global Ilocano Australia have been always a
great success. May I take this opportunity to congratulate and wholeheartedly
extend our gratitude to all who willingly, enthusiastically shared, contributed
and devoted their time to make the event a great success.
The achievement of the unified members and most of all the coordinating
officers, advisers and volunteers is nonetheless worthless. Without you
we would not had been able to achieve our goals to relay the services we
envisioned to render, share to the wider and multicultural community we
are living.
Once again, my heartfelt thanks and in pursuit for greater success let
us all make our community greater harmoniously with faith to one
another and to the guidance and blessings of God.
Concept model of a fully built up ACI Central
The Catalyst Seed
by Manuel Roux
“Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is
on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit
yielding seed; it shall be food for you.” Genesis 1:29
A
wise man plants trees knowing he
wouldn’t be around to enjoy the fruits
of his labour; the shade where birds
will roost nor the fruits that will satisfy his
cravings. He persists because it is the right and
decent thing to do. The wise man anticipates
and makes provisions; he has an eye for things
yet to come. A prudent man doesn’t cut trees in
winter, where the immediate relief is warmth
from embers, the result of fire. He knows this
same tree will give him cover in the scorching
heat of summer and whose roots will hold
water when the drenching time comes during
the wet season. That is why the prudent man
doesn’t make big decisions when one is at one’s
lowest point, vulnerable and unable to think
clearly. The learned man goes to the aid of fruit
bearing tree that is barren. He intervenes and
alters its DNA, pretends to hacks its trunk and
instinct tells the tree that it is being threatened
and thus it blooms and generates seeds in
order to propagate and continue its genus.
Controlled moderate smoke under its canopy
from burning leaves or chemical sprays are
ways that a thinking man helps the tree to
produce flowers. A learned man understands
that “education come about one hundred years
before a child is born!” Parents are a child’s first
teachers, and so it was with each individual
parent before them. Experiences and lessons
are handed down from generations so that it
can be improved upon.
Selfless men and women from different
walks of life, of different denomination and of
different age group had their influences vaguely
impressed on this child born about in their
dreams. This dream was in their subconscious
and when it presented itself in the form that they
best understood, they rallied and nurtured it.
Plaza Filipino was the dream that germinated
into one’s consciousness. And is able to crawl
in their midst with their help and support. With
care and diligence it grew up to adolescence. It
had a transformation, a new identity - NARRA.
And as it matures, the conversion continues.
The Philippine - Australian Arts, Culture and
Innovation Central (ACI Central) shines today
as a beacon for all to see. Fifteen years since,
the protégé of our dreams has come to fruition!
Happy 15th Anniversary Plaza Filipino!
