MESSAGE It is my pleasure to extend my warmest greetings to the National Affiliation of Responsible and Respectable Associations, Inc. (NARRA), Plaza Filipino and Global Ilocanos for organizing the 2018 Tribute to Fathers and Mothers. Held annually, your organizations have been giving recognition and honour to parents who have shared invaluable contributions to the community and to the Australian society. They are their children’s source of support may they be emotional, personal or financial. The Filipino Australian younger generations are inspired by their parents’ wisdom and life experience. I congratulate NARRA and Plaza Filipino for dedicating this event for the Fathers and Mothers who continue to share their vital role in shaping the future of the community and the country as a whole. Violeta Galang Escultura President, APCO MESSAGE On behalf of the officers and members Plaza Filipino, I would like to extend my gratitude for your tireless support in our annual fundraiser – the Tribute to Mothers and Fathers night. It is an evening that allows us to showcase our Filipino culture and in particular, our love for our family and appreciation for what our parents do for us and the community we live in. I would like to acknowledge this year’s honorees and thank them for their fundraising efforts. The achievements of Narra Co-op, including the purchase of two properties, in which Plaza Filipino’s fundraising proceeds have also gone into, wouldn’t be possible without the individuals who have lent their financial support this year and in previous years. This year, we embarked on a celebration of our dual heritage – our Philippine and Australian identity. In August this year, Reserve Bank governor Dr Philip Lowe said that Australia’s higher than average population growth – driven by immigration – is one of the reasons that the Australian economy has enjoyed better-than-expected economic growth. As one of the top 10 migrant communities in the country, Filipino-Australians can stand proud in our role in that, particularly as many of our kababayans have pursued professional careers in the healthcare industry or became small business owners, both of which are important cogs in the Australian economy. But to continue to enrich our lives, we must continue to nurture our cultural identity and ensure that future generations of Filipino-Australians are well-versed in their Philippine heritage. Occasions such as tonight, which helps our fundraising efforts towards our community centre – the ACI Central – is a platform to nurture our cultural roots. I would like to use this opportunity to call on NARRA Co-op and Plaza Filipino members and officers to stand proud. In the last 12 months, you have been instrumental in various fundraising projects, none of which would have been possible without teamwork. I would also like to thank community organisation Adhika, Inc for collaborating with us at last year’s PAMA- NA Ball. Collaboration in the community is the key to our future success. Finally, to everyone who has lent their support tonight – from our esteemed guests, honorees, volunteers, family and friends – it is our hope that you will continue to enjoy the fruits of our labour. MESSAGE Welcome to the 2018 Filipino Australian Heritage Night, Tribute to Fathers and Mothers organized by National Affiliation of Respectable and Responsible Associations (NARRA) Co-operative Ltd, Plaza Filipino Inc and Global Ilocanos Australia Inc. Tonight is a very significant one as Plaza Filipino Inc is celebrating its 15th Year Anniversary, Global Ilocanos Australia Inc - 10th Year Anniversary and NARRA Co-op Ltd - 5th Year Anniversary. A big thank you to all the Tribute to Fathers and Mothers honorees especially to Jorge Montano who was named Father of the Year and Estrella Watts who was proclaimed Mother of the Year. I am very happy that Narra Co-op Ltd was able to acquire our second property investment in August 2017, the first one was acquired two years ago. ACI Central II was inaugurated in September 2017 and this could not happen without the full support of the officers, members and supporters of National Affiliation of Respectable and Responsible Associations (NARRA) Co-operative Ltd especially Leon Aguila Associations, Carolina Boado, and Lowela Rynas. The Pamana Ball 2018 and the Recognition Night for Ambassador for Culture and the Arts 2018 was held in February. It was a memorable one as Adhika Inc joined Narra Co-op Ltd and Plaza Filipino Inc in recognizing both Adult and Young Ambassadors in this occasion for their efforts in promoting Filipino Arts and Culture. Our congratulations to all the honorees, the Adult Ambassadors led by Carolina Flores Boado and Renan Legaspi and the Young Ambassadors led by Gerard Joseph Musa and Meizl Anne Manese for their unselfish time and effort in making the Pamana Ball a very successful and memorable event. I am happy as a nominee at the Zest Awards this year, recalling that last year, Narra Co-operative Ltd and Sedgwick Housing Co-operative Ltd were also Zest Awards nominees. On 28 April 2018 at the Blacktown Library, we supported the unveiling of Dennis Gonzales Monte’s 3 Big artworks: Sa Kabukiran, Laro and Kultura which were sponsored by Plaza Filipino/Narra Co-operative Ltd , Elizabeth Escandor and Invocare. The event was thru the hardwork of Daisy Ann Gonzales, an Artist herserlf and a long time officer of Narra Co-op Ltd and Plaza Filipino Inc. At the Re-enactment of Station of the Cross in April 2018, Rose Lay was Mother Mary and Ricardo was Jesus Christ and other Narra Co-op members as Cast. I had a simple birthday celebration during the May 2018 Market, Market event at ACI Central. We had a very successful Tuloy Po Kayo Event (A Community fundraising event to support Philippine Arts and Culture in Sydney) with Marcus Rivera, Michelle Baltazar, Carmenchu Gresham, Precy Buchlack, Josephine Tada, Josephine de los Reyes, Myrma Lopez and Bob Reyes from Plaza Filipino; together with Albert Prias and Charles Chan from Flagcom; Josie and Gerry Musa from Adhika; and Filipinas Dance Group of Emma Braceros. We also joined the PCC Philippine National Day Ball and Pista sa Nayon Independence Day Celebration of APCO. Looking at our Financial Statement as of 30 June 2018, the Net Assets is $255,503 compared to $174,290 in 2017, the increase is due to the acquisition of Shop 2, the second investment property. The Subscribed Capital Stock is $226,600 while $164,700 in 2017. The Net Income is $19,313 compared with $912 in 2017. Congratulations and thank you to our new Bronze Legacy supporters Brian Babon. To sum it up, I would like to reiterate my thank you to my co-officers and members, all our honorees, and our family and friends especially my wife Myrma Lopez and Narra investors Anna Yuan and Vicky Chew. With your continued and unselfish support, we will soon be able to pay in full our Centre for Culture and the Arts which is an initiative of Narra Co-op Ltd and Plaza Filipino Inc. (Sgd) Jaime R Lopez, CPA, PhD NARRA President MESSAGE Year 2017 has been another year full of successful events, fund raisings, socialisation, promotion, wider participation and integration to the multicultural society of Australia. The yearly “Mother & Father of the Year” and “Ambassador of Arts & Culture” events hosted by Narra Cooperative, Plaza Filipino and Global Ilocano Australia have been always a great success. May I take this opportunity to congratulate and wholeheartedly extend our gratitude to all who willingly, enthusiastically shared, contributed and devoted their time to make the event a great success. The achievement of the unified members and most of all the coordinating officers, advisers and volunteers is nonetheless worthless. Without you we would not had been able to achieve our goals to relay the services we envisioned to render, share to the wider and multicultural community we are living. Once again, my heartfelt thanks and in pursuit for greater success let us all make our community greater harmoniously with faith to one another and to the guidance and blessings of God.
