MESSAGE I write to congratulate the Plaza Filipino for their 15 Year Anniversary and NARRA Co-operative for their 5 Year Anniversary. This is also a special occasion to congratulate Global Ilocanos Australia Inc. for their 10 Year Anniversary since establishment. I send my best regards to all those who will be attending the Philippine Australian Heritage Night as well as the Tribute to fathers and mothers. The Filipino-Australian community work tirelessly in promoting and preserving their culture, and sharing it with neighbouring communities. The tribute to mothers and fathers allows for communities to come together to love and respect one another, maintain close family ties and show appreciation for the unconditional love and support families provide to one another. Since the establishment of NARRA, the community has amenities available to them to continue to provide individuals with a place to gather and host functions, cultural and sporting events as well as hold general meetings. I wish to congratulate the NARRA President Jimmy Lopez, Plaza Filipino President Michelle Baltazar and all of the other Board Members for their tireless dedication and work in providing for the Filipino- Australian community. After all, there is nothing more important in life than family. Early on in my career, my experiences as a paediatrician taught me the importance of listening to the concerns of the mothers and fathers, as I know that they always have their child’s best interest at heart. I see this today in my role as a Member of Parliament, when meeting with constituents throughout my community who seek to build a better future for the next generation. I believe that there is nothing more fulfilling in life than nurturing a child, and being able to support and guide children through the surprises and struggles of life is more than a job for mothers and fathers; it is a priceless duty. One never ceases to be a parent, no matter your age. This parental support has always been integral to the Filipino Community and therefore it is only fitting that a tribute be given to mothers and fathers for their important role in our society. Macarthur is truly lucky to have such a vibrant Filipino-Australian community, whose active contribution to the region is widely noted and regarded. I wish to thank them for their ongoing involvement in our society, as well as congratulating them for the strong emphasis placed on the role of the family unit in our society. As a son, a father and a grandfather I would like to pay tribute to all the amazing mothers and fathers. The role mothers and fathers play in our society are often overlooked and undervalued; and as such, I once again thank the Plaza Filipino Inc and NARRA Co-operative Ltd for presenting this wonderful tribute. MESSAGE I wish to extend my warm greetings to the officers and members of the Plaza Filipino Inc., NARRA Co-operative Ltd and the Global Ilocanos Australia, Inc. on the occasion of your celebration of the Philippine Australian Heritage Night and Tribute to Fathers and Mothers on 2 September 2018. It is commendable that your organizations have banded together to pursue your goal of establishing a Filipino Community Centre that caters to the needs of the community and religious organizations. Your exemplary record in efficiently managing the Filipino Community Centre demonstrates the Filipino Community’s social cohesion and strong spirit of volunteerism, and represents your tangible contributions towards maintaining the positive image of the Philippines and Filipinos overseas. Your Tribute to Fathers and Mothers also reflects the strong filial ties of Filipinos that form one of the bedrocks of Filipino culture. I look forward to our continued engagement with the Plaza Filipino Inc., Narra Co-operative Ltd and the Global Ilocanos Australia Inc. in building bridges of friendship and positive engagement between the Philippines and Australia.
