The Programme Editor
Hello everyone and a welcome to Pagham to Woodstock for their first visit Here.
It was somewhat of an anti climax on Saturday after the fantastic atmosphere the previous
Tuesday when we entertained Herne Bay. The Sittingbourne football was sizzling in that game
and it was a well earned victory for us in front of our biggest crowd this year.
Pagham are a decent side who have now gone 9 games without defeat so we knew it was going
to be tough. It will need all of your brilliant support to spur the players on tonight.
There has already been 1 upset in the cup featuring
a defeat by a Southern Combination Side
(Haywards Heath) of South Park, a club who like
us are unbeaten in their first two league games,
so we wont be taking todays replay lightly!
It was our first coach journey for some time on
Saturday, mainly because of the cost of the
coaches these days and the relatively short distances
that we now mainly do.
Saturdays’ coach cost to us was £695 however
other quotes included an eye watering £995 and
a more reasonable but still expensive £795 so it
was satisfying that we could use our local coach
company at last.
I say at last because during the heady days of
the Southern League I was arranging coaches
for the club then and we used to travel by a certain
Gillingham based company to Salisbury,
Cheltenham, Merthyr, Kings Lynn, Corby, Bath,
Rothwell and many other grounds much further
than we now have to travel. Who remembers the
Steve Davies quizzes and the cakes.
Strangely it never seemed a chore in those
days. I have kept a record of the timings of the
coaches from back then in case we go to any of
those grounds again.
The coach journey back from Pagham was fairly
lively and my ears are still ringing from some of
the attempts at singing! (Only kidding). Incidentally
the coach was a 59 seater and not a 53
seater and unfortunately there was no toilet. The
change of coach was because the scheduled
coach had been run in to the back by a refuse lorry, and damaged!
Lets hope for a good game and a positive result.
