Although he is undoubtedly one<br />
of Scotland’s most successful<br />
businessmen, John Martin, the Group’s<br />
founder and Chairman, prefers<br />
not to seek the public limelight.<br />
He is much more at home working with<br />
the Group’s Directors in overseeing the<br />
ongoing building and refurbishments<br />
of new and existing sites, ensuring that<br />
every site meets his exacting standards.<br />
Success on the scale of the John Martin<br />
Group takes persistence, much hard<br />
work, and absolute dedication. John<br />
Martin has worked for over forty years<br />
to establish his company as a dominant<br />
and respected motor trade business.<br />
In recent years, John Martin has had<br />
to overcome what has been both a<br />
personal and professional tragedy with<br />
the sudden loss of son and heir, John<br />
Martin Junior, who was much loved<br />
and respected by the Martin family and<br />
all the staff of the John Martin Group.<br />
Subsequently, John Martin Senior has<br />
seen the company through this loss<br />
and the subsequent restructuring,<br />
emerging as dedicated as ever with<br />
his employees remaining steadfastly<br />
loyal. The John Martin Group enjoys<br />
the benefit of some of the UK’s<br />
most experienced motor trade staff<br />
- 24% of employees have over<br />
10 years service. In fact, the second<br />
person John Martin ever employed<br />
retired in 2007 after 41 years of service.<br />
The principles which John Martin still<br />
applies to his business are those he<br />
learned in the beginning. As he puts it,<br />
“the difference between success and<br />
failure is in the preparation of the car<br />
in the first place, and then in the way<br />
the customers are handled from the<br />
moment they come into the dealership.”<br />
It is a tribute to John Martin’s steadfast<br />

customers from his original lockup<br />
‘down the lane’, established in<br />
the sixties, remain loyal clients of<br />
the John Martin Group today.
