PHOTO CONTEST:<br />
“CAPTURE FORT BEND COUNTY”<br />
<strong>September</strong> 4 th -29 th at all FBCL locations<br />
The theme of the contest is “Capture Fort Bend<br />
County.” Amateur photographers of all skill levels<br />
are invited to enter original photographs that portray<br />
the culture, nature, people and places of Fort Bend<br />
County - from hidden gems in our communities to<br />
favorite places and scenes around town. Entries<br />
can be submitted at any of the libraries in the Fort<br />
Bend County library system beginning <strong>September</strong><br />
4 th , the deadline for entries is <strong>September</strong> 29 th , at 5<br />
PM. Prizes will be awarded for 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd place<br />
entries. Winners will be announced at a special reception<br />
and awards ceremony on Saturday, October<br />
28 th , at George Memorial Library in Richmond. All<br />
photographs will be displayed in the Bohachevsky<br />
Gallery at George Memorial Library from October<br />
28 th through December 1 st . Winning photographs<br />
will be determined by a panel of judges, who will<br />
make their determinations based on the following<br />
criteria: relationship to contest theme, composition,<br />
focus, lighting, emotional impact and creativity. Photographs<br />
will be anonymous until after the judging is<br />
complete. All entries must be original, unpublished<br />
and the work of the person submitting it. Only one<br />
photo may be entered per person. Photographs<br />
should be printed on photo-quality paper and must<br />
be no smaller than 8”x10” and no larger than 11”x17.”<br />
Photos may be in color or black-and-white. FBCL<br />
reserves the right to print or display any entry to this<br />
contest indefinitely. Entries will be exhibited for the<br />
general public to see, so they should be appropriate<br />
for all ages to view. The photographer is responsible<br />
for obtaining verbal or written release for public use<br />
of the photo from all identifiable individuals in the<br />
photograph submitted, the photographer accepts all<br />
liability from the use of a photo where this release has<br />
not been obtained. The contest is open to amateur<br />
photographers only. Professional photographers,<br />
who earn a living by selling their photographs, are<br />
not eligible to participate. There is no fee for entering<br />
the contest. Library employees and their immediate<br />
families are not eligible to win.<br />

SPECIAL EVENTS<br />
• BOOK SALE - The Friends of the Maud Marks Library will hold their next book sale on<br />
Saturday, <strong>September</strong> 30 th at 10 AM until 4 PM. There is a large selection of hardback<br />
fiction and nonfiction, as well as children’s books and paperbacks all at rock bottom<br />
prices! All proceeds will benefit the library.<br />
• VOLUNTEER AT THE LIBRARY - Volunteer opportunities abound at the library. Volunteers<br />
are needed to help shelve, count patrons and more. We will be holding our<br />
next volunteer orientation on Thursday, <strong>September</strong> 7 th at 4:30 PM. Students should<br />
be in high school and must be able to commit to two hours a week. If you would like<br />
to help in any way, please contact Lauren Richards at 281-492-8592.<br />
• TEENMAKERS - Teens & tweens in 6 th grade and up are invited to come MAKE something<br />
at the library. This will be a monthly program, which will include robotics, science<br />
experiments, art & crafts and more! We will be meeting one Thursday a month<br />
beginning <strong>September</strong> 14 th at 3:30 PM. Come have fun and MAKE something!<br />
• TEEN BOOK CLUB - We are starting a teen book club! Teens are invited to join us on<br />
Thursday, <strong>September</strong> 21 st at 4:30 PM as we discuss the book The Eye of Minds by James<br />
Dashner. If you are interested in joining us, extra copies of the book are available at<br />
the checkout desk beginning <strong>September</strong> 1 st .<br />
• YOGA DEMONSTRATION - You asked for it, you got it! The library hosts classes twice<br />
a month. Yoga can be a very relaxing and centering exercise program. Join us on<br />
Saturdays, <strong>September</strong> 2 nd at 10 AM and <strong>September</strong> 16 th at 3 PM, as we learn about<br />
the benefits and basic how-to of yoga. Join us as we exercise our minds and bodies.<br />
