WINTER
IS COMING
EXPERIENCE THE HISTORY OF
NORDIC SKIING FROM ITS ROOTS IN
SCANDINAVIA TO THE PRESENT-DAY
PACIFIC NORTHWEST
Oregon has been on the forefront of Nordic
skiing since the early 1920s, and the entire
history of the sport, including the journey
from Scandinavia to the Pacific Northwest,
will be on display at Nordia House from
September 20 through December 31. The
development of the exhibit, Winter Comes:
Oregon’s Nordic Ski History, comes to
us from the Deschutes County Historical
Society and is curated by Deschutes
County Historical Society Executive
Director Kelly Cannon-Miller, co-curator
Tim Gibbons with the Oregon Nordic Ski
Foundation, and local historian Tor Hanson.
Hear the oral histories of the sons and
daughters of ski pioneers recounting their
determination to explore the backwoods
of Oregon on two skis; compare skis and
outfits across the decades; and read about
the entrepreneurial Nordic immigrants
who brought their beloved sport to the
Pacific Northwest. This exhibit is generously
sponsored by Hans and Nancy Sohlstrom.
Free and open to the public. •
SCANFEAST
2017
JOIN IN FOR OUR GRANDEST
FUNDRAISING EVENT OF THE YEAR
For more than twenty-five years, our annual ScanFeast
Auction & Gala has not only been a great party, but
has also provided the largest source of financial support
for NNW. This year, ScanFeast will account for almost
25% of our budget. Even though attendance is limited by
our capacity, there are many ways to support the effort.
The ScanFeast Raffle is always popular and this year’s
prizes are perfect for Oregon wine lovers. Top prize
includes a two night stay at the extraordinary Allison
Inn & Spa in Newberg, a $500 gift certificate for use
at the Inn, Spa, or JORY Restaurant, and a host of wine
tasting experiences at Willamette Valley wineries. Plus,
an excellent assortment of fine Nordic wines for your
personal collection. Total value over $2,500.
Second prize is a two-night stay for up to six people at
Beacon Hill House in Gaston, OR paired with a wine
tasting at Beacon Hill Winery and other fun add-ons. Total
value over $900.
Tickets are $50 each or six for $250, and are on sale at
Nordia House or by phone at 503.977.0275. A maximum
of 400 tickets will be sold.
ScanFeast Auction item donations are also ALWAYS
important to us. At the event, we have both a live auction
and a silent auction. Spirited bidding is the key to a
successful fundraiser, so we are always looking for unique
experiences and treasures to spur excitement.
Can you or your business donate goods or services we
could add to our auction? Dinners, overnight or extended
stays at hotels or condos, tickets to sporting or cultural
events, or out-of-the-ordinary opportunities? Give our
office a call at 503.977.0275, or download our donation
form at www.scanheritage.org/scanfeast.
ScanFeast tickets are always in tight supply. We begin our
ScanFeast outreach by first seeking full-table sponsorships
and underwriting, but any remaining seats will be made
available for single-seat sale beginning September 1.
On that date, single tickets go on-sale at the Early Bird
price of $150 each. Ticket prices go to $175 each on
September 8. We anticipate that this event will sell out, so
be sure to call as early as possible if you are interested.
