Each year, NNW awards a $2,500 scholarship to one young woman of Nordic heritage, $1,500 to the runner-up, and $1,000 each to the remaining members of the Lucia Court. This award has been a integral part of the Portland community since 1956 and it's given educational opportunity to many women ages 16-20. Apply for the chance to serve the wider Nordic community and partake in an important Scandinavian tradition! The application is now online at www.scanheritage.org/lucia-scholarship. • GIVING TUESDAY PLAN YOUR END-OF-YEAR GIVING NOW Giving Tuesday is the nonprofit answer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday and it takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. NNW has participated in Giving Tuesday the last two years as the kickoff to our end-of-year giving campaign. Last year, we raised almost $45,000 from our end-ofyear giving, which helped fund programming ranging from lectures by the Deputy Amabassador from the EU to the US to a stunning exhibit featuring famous Finnish architects' summer homes. Check back for more details throughout the fall. • NNW MEMBER NEWS Congratulations to: Emma Hunter, our 61 ST Official Lucia of Oregon (2016-<strong>2017</strong>), as she heads off for her first year at Pacific Lutheran University! Althea Gray, on her recent marriage to Bob Gauthier! Our sincere condolences to families and friends for the recent passing of: William (Bill) Peek. Long-time supporters Bill and wife Judy have been mainstays in our efforts and he will be missed. Edward Atiyeh. Edward, along with wife Karen, have been involved with NNW for 20 years, and our thoughts go out to his loved ones. Larry West. Longtime NNW member, Scandinavian of the Year in 2011, and active participant in all things Danish.
