They’ve worked hard, and it
paid off tonight.”
At the competition, bands
were classified in three
class sizes, A, AA, and
AAA, based on the number
of playing musicians. A
panel of judges uses Bands
of America scoring sheets
to assess each band’s performance.
First, second,
and third place awards are
given to each class, and
the title of Grand Champion
is bestowed on the
highest scoring band. Individual
awards are given
for outstanding percussion,
color guard, general effect,
and music.
The newly formed Lincoln-Way
Marching Band
boasts 270 members from
all three Lincoln-Way high
schools. While Lincoln-
Way has a long-standing
tradition of strong marching
bands at all district schools,
this is only the second year
the schools have joined
forces to present one very
large, all-district marching
band. The group hopes
that Saturday’s accomplishments
will mark the beginning
of a new reign in District
210.
Area residents will have
an opportunity to see the
LWMB perform locally, on
Saturday, Oct. 7, at Lincoln-
Way East High School,
when the band hosts the
22nd Annual Lincoln-Way
Marching Band Invitational.
Gates will open at 3:45
PM, and the competition is
set to step off at 4:30 P.M.
Spectators will be treated to
a different marching band
every 15 minutes.
Competitors in the event
include local bands from
Eisenhower, Shepard,
Lemont, Brother Rice,
Lockport and Andrew High
Schools. Lincoln-Way will
perform at the conclusion
of the event as an exhibition
band.
Proceeds from the event
will benefit the Lincoln-
Way marching band program
and are used to
purchase instruments, uniforms,
props, sound equipment,
transportation as well
as instructional guidance.
Marching band members
from every school log many
long hours preparing their
annual show, usually beginning
in the spring. Field
shows are the culmination
of years of practice and
months of rigorous team
training.
The Lincoln-Way Marching
Band will compete at
the Illinois State University
Invitational on October 14,
and at the Bands of America
Super Regional, in Indianapolis,
on Oct. 21.
Please come out to support
these kids and their
dedication to their craft.
Standout Student
Sponsored by Marquette Bank
Grace Casey,
Lincoln-Way East
High School senior
Grace Casey was chosen as
this week’s Standout Student for
her academic excellence
What is one essential you
must have when studying
and why?
Water and complete silence;
otherwise I can’t
think.
What do you like to do when
not in school or studying?
I love to run. It’s even better
when I get to run to my
friend’s house to hang out
with them.
What is your dream job and
why?
A CEO/president of a
corporation or a dermatologist.
What is one thing people
don’t know about you?
That my mom didn’t make
it to the hospital during labor.
So I was born in the car
... oops.
Whom do you look up to and
why?
My mom. She’s amazing.
I don’t know how she does
it all, but I really hope one
day I can manage to do the
same.
Who is your favorite teacher
and why?
Mrs. Lamore has impacted
me the most while being
here. She cares about everyone
and it’s very obvious.
You just can’t have a bad day
after talking to her.
Photo submitted
What is your favorite class
and why?
I enjoy English because it
comes easily to me and it’s
important in life, but then
again I enjoy chemistry as
well because it challenges me.
What is one thing that
stands out about your
school?
Sports and academics definitely.
If you could change one thing
about school, what would
it be?
I would love if they let us
eat outside for lunch in the
spring and fall.
What is your favorite thing
to eat in the cafeteria?
Mac and cheese bites!
They don’t come around often,
but when they do ... I’m
all over them.
What is your best memory
from school?
The people. All the new
friends and new faces I come
across everyday have made
this year one to remember.
Standout Student is weekly
feature in The Station. Nominations
come from Frankfort
schools.
