2017 GLOBAL WELLNESS SUMMIT October 9-11, Florida, USA “As our theme this year is Living a Well Life, we’re offering more experiences to our delegates, to underscore wellness on a personal level” What motivated the selection of Living a Well Life as the theme? This theme gives us the opportunity to craft an agenda that covers every aspect of wellness and its impact on each of us personally. Wellness is becoming less an external amenity and more something that affects every aspect of an individual’s life. With this theme, we are empowered to look inward and focus on how new wellness concepts will increasingly transform every aspect of human life. Because the theme places the individual at the centre of the wellness conversation, attendees’ will not only hear about the latest breakthroughs, they will be able to participate in them. How did you choose The Breakers Palm Beach Resort in Florida as the location for the 2017 summit? This is the first time in the Global Wellness Summit’s (GWS) 11-year history that the host is a private business, rather than a tourism organisation or governmental department at national or regional level, and The Breakers Palm Beach is the perfect venue. Not only because it’s a beautiful historic resort with a beachfront location and convenient airport access but also because they are a powerful example of a deeply wellness-driven business. They put social responsibility and the wellbeing of their 2,000 employees above all else and have an award-winning workplace wellness programme that spans physical, mental, financial, environmental, family and community health initiatives. What can we expect from this year’s GWS agenda? Each year’s agenda focuses on innovation and the future and takes into consideration the expertise and resources at the host location. This year we’re in the US and we wanted to tap into the country’s technological expertise, so there will be quite a few glimpses into how wellness and technology will intersect in the future. One topic that will be front and centre is the new personal biomarker and DNA testing springing up all over the globe. Another topic will be the opportunities for wellness and integrative medicine to contribute to solving the global problem of rising healthcare costs. Workplace wellbeing will also be a major trend, as will wellness communities and lifestyle real estate: we have a study into this underway, the findings of which will be presented at the summit. We’ll also be tackling mental wellness, which has emerged as a topic of strong consumer interest, from a variety of 58 World Spa & Wellness | July/August 2017
