Our first meeting of the year on 11th September was a chance to catch up
and arrange the syllabus for the year. This was followed by sequences on
interesting places we had visited over the summer.
Gerry started off with his show “Birds
in a Gilded Cage” about his prolonged,
eventful holiday in Mauritius. It allowed
us to share some of the atmosphere of
the island and see some of the flora,
fauna, glorious sunsets and beautiful
beaches.
David had photographed and
made a sequence of “The Clyde
Swim 2017” which is an open water
challenge in the Clyde fi nishing at
Greenock. It was a documentary
of the hardy swimmers who
completed the swim and were
happy to pose for photos at the
end.
Kate took us on a historical trip to
Newtonmore Highland Folk Park
to see a re-enactment of the 1745
Jacobite Rebellion complete with
Redcoats and Jacobites, and brought
to life with the use of musket fire in
her soundtrack. A must for Outlander
fans!
Hugh’s sequence took us to Holland, a
land of windmills, bikes and canals. We had a wander through Amsterdam,
Delft and The Hague to see some of the interesting architecture, the canals,
windmills and the world famous museums.
Bill’s first show “Le Pigeonnier”
was made for the owner of the gÎte
he stayed in on his French holiday
and I am sure his superb photos
of the interior will tempt visitors.
His second show titled “Poppy
Fields” was produced using only
five slides in different ways.
Val’s sequence was called “Mermaid of the North” and was shot in Balintore
where there is a mermaid statue on Clach Dubh. It was accompanied by
interesting facts about the statue.
We ventured off to Corfu with Jim to see “Rodica’s Garden” A lovely,
colourful, harmonic little garden with excellent flower shots.
Ronnie brought us back to the lovely Kintyre coast and Point Sands where
we saw abandoned boats, long sandy beaches, lovely sunsets and family
fun.
Fiona’s show “This is Home” took a
look at the places gulls call home:
from cliffs in Iceland to rooftops and
window ledges in Rorvik and diggers
and fish drying racks in Svolvaer.
It was an enjoyable evening and if
you are tempted to join us you will
be very welcome. Our next meeting
will be on Monday 9th October in
