kilbarchan, howwood, lochwinnoch & elderslie 48 kilbarchan - howwood - lochwinnoch - elderslie The Kilbarchan Smile Big Autumn Clear up Sunday 29th October taking place from 2pm-4pm Meet at the Ewing Street car parking area opposite Bog Park. Kilbarchan Smile was set up to help make improvements to the village with the support and involvement of the community. To this end the group is organising the “Kilbarchan Smile Big Autumn Clear Up” for Sunday 29th October taking place from 2pm - 4pm. Volunteers (Smilers) are being asked to meet at the Ewing Street car parking area opposite Bog Park. The event will support Renfrewshire’s new ‘Team Up to Clean Up’ campaign and equipment including litter pickers, hi viz vests, bags, bag hoops and gloves will be provided as part of this. If you want to make a difference to the village please come along and “Do Your Bit” if you can (we are happy for volunteers to pick their own area for attention) – as they say many hands make light work! We usually provide some well-earned treats and giveaways at the end of the day! Francesca Scott introduced the guides group to their plot and the rest of the garden and despite a dark wet evening they had great fun harvesting potatoes. A number of families have also now adopted a growing space each too but more volunteers are still needed to help ensure the continued access and use of the garden. Just a few hours a month makes all the difference – we have made such a difference to what was a real eyesore at the entrance to our lovely conservation village, let’s make sure all the efforts so far are sustained into the future. If you are interested in making a positive difference to your village please do get in touch, have fun and make new friends. kilbarchan - howwood - lochwinnoch - elderslie Messy Church Our second Messy Church of this session will meet in Kilbarchan Parish Church halls on Saturday 21st October from 4pm to 6pm. All children, with an adult, will be made most welcome. Everyone joins in and by the time we sit down to eat together new friendships will have been made, or old ones renewed. It is an easy to follow exercise class for both men and women. Everyone is welcome – it can help you feel fi t for life. Get your vitality back – come to a Move it or Lose it! class. This will be held on a Thursday afternoon from 2.30pm – 3.30pm, starting on 21st September. The cost will be £4 per class or £30 for 10 classes. However the fi rst class will be free so come and try it and see how you get on. Johnstone Credit Union are having a new collection point in the Old Library Centre on Wednesday mornings. They will be having a launch event on Wednesday 4th October when refreshments will be provided. Come along and fi nd out about joining and the services provided. Stallholders include Annabelle’s Christmas Decorations, Sweets and Knits, Threepwood Fayre, BrawBricht Jewellery, Mandy’s Rainbow gGlass, All Things Nice Jams and Pickles and many more. Browse our 21 stalls and stop for a coffee and a chat with friends. All funds raised will go towards World Challenge India 2019. The fi lled boxes should be returned at the beginning of November to be dedicated on Sunday 5th, prior to dispatch to the recipients in Eastern Europe in time for Christmas. Kilbarchan Parish Church Drama Group ~ Rehearsals are now underway for the November production “Murder at the Asylum”, a comedy/mystery to be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 23rd - 25th November in the Parish Church Hall at 7.30pm. Tickets will be available from Bobbins by late October, price £8, school-age £5. Kilbarchan Parish Church Tots’ Club ~ The club takes place on Mondays from 9.15am -11.30am in the Church Hall, when we are delighted to welcome tots from birth-3 years, along with their accompanying adults. There is a huge variety of toys and bouncy castle for the tots and enjoyable company with tea/coffee for the adults. The cost remains £1 for adults. As a local driver this is every bit as frustrating for me as it is for constituents so please be assured I am liaising with council offi cers, Scottish Water, and David Wilson Homes, to make sure works are fi nished by the deadline of 10th December. I am delighted to report that the telephone box at Crosslee is getting repainted by the BT painting team when they are next in Renfrewshire. Not everyone has a mobile phone even these days so I am pleased that BT now recognise this, and Crosslee will at sometime in the future have a shiny bright red phone box once again. I was the only ward Councillor to attend the DEPA hearing at Erskine, and at the site visit in Brookfi eld the next day, and I went to support Brookfi eld Community Council in opposing the Sandholes Road development, the two community council representatives spoke forcibly for the interests of the village and I sincerely hope our voices are listened to. My advice surgery in Brookfi eld is on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6.30pm in Brookfi eld Village Hall, and my advice surgery in Houston is on the 4th Thursday of the month in Houston Village Hall, at 7.15pm, excluding July and Christmas.
