Transit Proximity Rates
Access to Parks, Libraries and Greenways
When residents have sufficient access to services, they are more likely to utilize services that meet
or exceed their needs. One of the County’s goals is to have all open and developed County libraries,
parks and greenways within 1/4 mile of a transit stop.
Types of parks include: community parks, golf courses, nature preserves, recreation centers, regional
parks, special facilities and pools. Neighborhood parks are not included in the analysis.
Only greenway entrances are considered for the analysis. Public entrances are identified as access
locations with a car parking lot, non-neighborhood street entrance or access via a public facility.
While the County strives to ensure facilities are accessible to all Mecklenburg residents, some public
libraries, park and recreation facilities, and greenways are not within 1/4 mile of transit stops. Since
2014, transit proximity has been on the rise for parks, somewhat on a decline for public libraries and
remained flat for greenways.
