Jerinic draws attention to our interactions with the built landscape. Fascinated by the spaces at
the margins of the ordered world, Jerinic nods to the Situationist experiments in psychogeography
and the simple physicality achieved in the work of Land Artists, a generation earlier.
Her work has a dark humor centering on the notion of ‘territory’ in its expectant state. Katarina’s
artwork manifests itself in maps, suites of photographs, walking tours, videos, and handmade editions.
Jerinic’s photography, mixed-media work and participant-based installations respond to,
and intervene with, built environments. For several years, Jerinic groomed and recorded a leftover
piece of landscape that she acquired through the Department of Transportation’s Adopt-
A-Highway Program. Her project Beautification This Site, focused on the land itself and the way
this very real space is shaped by bureaucratic and natural forces, passersby, and her own eforts.
Katarina Jerinic earned her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York and BA from the
American University in Washington DC. In 2016, Katarina had a solo exhibition at Songs for
Presidents in Brooklyn. Her work has been included in group shows at BRIC House, Brooklyn
Historical Society, Soapbox Gallery, and Present Company (all Brooklyn), Spring/Break Art
Show (NYC), Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art and Storm King (both Upstate, NY)
and the Temple School of Art (Philadelphia). She has participated in numerous artist residencies
including Helsinki International Artists Program, iLAND, Apexart, Lower Manhattan Cultural
Council (LMCC), the Center or Book Arts, and The MacDowell Colony.
