Jerinic draws attention to our interactions with the built landscape. Fascinated by the spaces at<br />

the margins of the ordered world, Jerinic nods to the Situationist experiments in psychogeography<br />

and the simple physicality achieved in the work of Land Artists, a generation earlier.<br />

Her work has a dark humor centering on the notion of ‘territory’ in its expectant state. Katarina’s<br />

artwork manifests itself in maps, suites of photographs, walking tours, videos, and handmade editions.<br />

Jerinic’s photography, mixed-media work and participant-based installations respond to,<br />

and intervene with, built environments. For several years, Jerinic groomed and recorded a leftover<br />

piece of landscape that she acquired through the Department of Transportation’s Adopt-<br />

A-Highway Program. Her project Beautification This Site, focused on the land itself and the way<br />

this very real space is shaped by bureaucratic and natural forces, passersby, and her own eforts.<br />

Katarina Jerinic earned her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York and BA from the<br />

American University in Washington DC. In 2016, Katarina had a solo exhibition at Songs for<br />

Presidents in Brooklyn. Her work has been included in group shows at BRIC House, Brooklyn<br />

Historical Society, Soapbox Gallery, and Present Company (all Brooklyn), <strong>Spring</strong>/Break Art<br />

Show (NYC), Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art and Storm King (both Upstate, NY)<br />

and the Temple School of Art (Philadelphia). She has participated in numerous artist residencies<br />

including Helsinki International Artists Program, iLAND, Apexart, Lower Manhattan Cultural<br />

Council (LMCC), the Center or Book Arts, and The MacDowell Colony.
